The appearance was a dark black body with a light brown one finger head that concaves to a lumpy film and leaving some thick foamy lacing clinging to the sides of the glass. The smell had a dry roasty coffee, slight licorice, perhaps a bit of bourbon and chocolate. The taste was slightly sweet and somewhat bitter - balanced very well between the previously mentioned flavors, dry sweet aftertaste and finish. The palate was about a medium, sessionable, adequately carbonated. Overall, I would say very good for the style and am really liking the licorice that comes out.

Pours a dark black with no head. Smells of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and some licorice. Taste follows the nose exactly. Although I'm not sure if I'd actually pick up on the licorice if it didn't say so on the bottle. Medium in body and carbonation. Overall this is an exceptional stout that I'd definitely buy again.

L: pours deep dark brown under a 1/2" lacy, light to medium tan cap with fair to moderate retention.

S: rich dark chocolate, mocha, fresh roast coffee, traces of dark dried fruit, and tracers of hops. Roasty grain aromas dominate but there is nothing burnt or harsh.

T: Rich and creamy bitter chocolate fills the mouth with a mild sweetness that dries on the finish with some astringency from the roasted grains giving the beer more of a coffee character. Hints of dark fruit add complexity. There are no burnt or harsh roast flavors.

F: The body is full leaning to chewy and the carbonation is above average but very soft.

O: This is a flavorful, well rounded stout.

Pretty average stout, but it is enjoyable.
Color: deep deep brown with maybe a little amber color. Decent head when poured
Smell: roastey and chocolatey maybe some coffee notes.
Taste: Smooth and roastey. also some spiciness maybe anise? I like it.
