These Bell's planet series beers have been great, this one especially -- a drinkable, low-ABV, malt-forward Belgian with tons of Midwestern influence and flavor to the max!

12 oz. bottle split with my wife to wash the taste of CW17 out of our mouths. Per the label, packaged on 12/4/14.

The pour is vaguely hazed yellow that could be used for a urine sample. The nose is so weak I doubt it could curl five pounds: light fruits on a distant breeze, not much else.

Mercury is channeling some odd hefeweizen vibe. Middling wheat component is muddled by the fruity esters & white grapes, which is the one taste that jumps out. Dim spiciness that leans into white pepper. The finish is an odd yeastiness that isn’t funky, but leans into dirty farm soil, which clashes blade-on-blade with the fruit aspects. Six ounces? About three too many. Light & effervescent, which is one of the few positives I can draw from this rather unsettling experience.

Bell’s doesn’t miss often, but this is a big cut at a curveball in the dirt. Not undrinkable, but not enjoyable, & I’m really happy I only seized on a single. Sub-mediocre.

Pours golden yellow with a slight rusty hue and a finger head of bubbly foam.

Tons of black pepper in the nose, not appealing. Some slight funk and clove to note as well, but again not appealing.

Ugh, the black pepper aroma carried over into the sip. Not good. Way too much black pepper/herbal spice and not enough sweet.

Bubbly, spicy, not good.

Overall, Bell's need to re-evaluate this recipe (IMO).

SO much better than Venus (obviously not as good as Mars) but I love the unfilteredness of the beer. Very solid and although I probably give it more credit than it deserves, for a unique series of beers, might as well enjoy it.

The unfiltered part of the beer makes this beer pretty great!

Alright this is not the best beer they have produced by any stretch. But I am not going to jump on this group-think mentality and blow it out as a piece of garbage. Now, I don't expect much from this style so I really didn't but its not bad really.

Appearance: light straw yellow. Looks like a farmhouse or Belgian style ale.

Aroma: Some yeasty esters, very much a Belgian style ale in that regard. Some herbal notes clove, etc. Not a really bad aroma reminds me of a light farmhouse ale, not a lot of the funk but similar in style.

Taste: Nice clean citrus and yeast flavor. Its really not that bad of a beer. Honestly this one was much better than Venus in my opinion.

Overall: Its a one time deal, get over it, they are trying something different and there is this new thing where everyone is shitting on Bell's but honestly this beer is not that bad.

Packaged 12/4/14 so was probably best consumed fresh rather than nearly 2 months later. Pours a very light head that dissapates quickly (odd for this style). Nose was a lighter bready yeast that reminded me more of a euro lager than a Belgium pale. Taste was a huge let down as it had a skunkiness and profile more similar to a Heineken. The biscuity malt and forward floral dry hops I enjoy in a Belgium PA were missing almost completely. A real dud from a well respected brewery

This beer was better than I expected. I'm not usually a fan of straight Belgian ales, but this really reminded me of North Coast Pranqster. Specifically how clean and crisp the beer tasted. It also did not have the traditional Belgian yeast flavor that I expected. I can see how if you were going in expecting a more traditional Belgian this beer would be a disappointment, but for me it was the opposite. Light, golden, clean, easy drinking, good flavor, wasn't the heavy craft beer that I expected from Bells. This is something I could easily drink all summer (even though it came out in December).

Judging by many of the other reviews its possible that production was inconsistent. Either that or its possible that wholefoods somehow stored or transported it improperly. Strange, off, yeast flavors, but perhaps just not to my preference.

What is Bell's doing besides putting out below average beer in this Planet Series? This beer has no smell or taste worth note. The only thing I taste is some Belgian yeast and malt, nothing worthwhile. I think I am done with this series

Drink this one too cold and you're in for a disappointing time. Opening it straight out of the fridge led me to believe it might have gotten skunked. Let it warm up, though, and it becomes considerably less objectionable. Tastes like a fairly average BPA. Not terribly exciting, but if they still have a few at my local beer place next week I might pick another one up.

12 oz bottle, w/ PKGD dating 12/04/14

Pours hazed light and dull looking medium amber with a lemony hue. Next to no head, just a slight fine film and fine spots of lace.

Ripe fruit nose.

This a pleasant enough lighter and fruitier brew. Some coriander, yeasty notes, limey citrus flourishes in the finish.

Summery, tasty and worth a try.

Deep golden hue with plenty of sediment suspended within the body. A fingernail of off white head covers the rim and the majority of the top. I detect coriander, orange peel, and light malt. The taste is initially coriander, but then the light Belgian malt takes over and there is a light sweetness that appears. The mouth is moderately carbonated and dry.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of white head that settles into a thin patch.

Smell: A yeasty, spicy, and fruity Belgian style aroma with hints of fruit and earthy hops. Belgian yeast with hints of funk, white pepper, clove, and coriander. Fruit esters of lemon, pear, banana, orange, and apple. Pale malt with hints of grains, straw, and cracker. Subtle earthy hops with some hints of grass. Also some hints of candied sugar. A pretty nice Belgian style aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a nicely yeasty, fruity, and spicy Belgian style taste with good notes of zesty fruit and earthy hops. Belgian yeast with notes of farmhouse funk, clove, white pepper, and coriander. Good mix of fruit esters with zesty notes of lemon, banana, pear, apple, and orange. Pale malt with bready notes of grains, straw, and cracker. Sweet notes of candied sugar. Nice earthy notes of grassy hops in the background. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Crisp, juicy, and smooth with a drying finish.

Overall: A very solid session Belgian Pale Ale. Nice mix of yeast, fruit, and spice flavors that would make you think it’s a heavier beer.
