Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
A smooth, toasty brown ale with hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

12oz bottle, dated 8.14.17, poured into a Bells tulip glass.

The beer pours a deep brown color, dark amber and copper hues, fairly opaque with a foamy bone colored head, two fingers tall with good retention and nice swatches of lace cling to the glass. The aroma is nice, lots of rich bready malt, amber grain, caramel and brown sugar, light piney hops linger well with a pleasant earthy and grassy quality. The flavors are good, brown sugar comes out nicely with loads of caramel and amber malts, nice and bready, rich with a light amount of chocolate before the counterbalance of piney hops and earthiness sets in and lingers well. The mouthfeel is good, lighter medium body, lively carbonation, nice texture that coats pretty well with a soft, crisp and dry finish.

Verdict: A good brown ale from Bell's Brewery, really easy and pleasantly balanced. Good for a nice, cool and crisp Autumn afternoon and pairs well with a good meal.

Poured from bottle to pilsner glass. Glowing light brown ale topped with a few fingers of off-white head. Aromas of toasted malts, some caramel. Flavors of smooth chocolate, caramel, dark breads, and some fruity (green apple, pear) notes. One of my favorite browns, just wish it was more than seasonal.

This one pours a rich dark brown with a head that quickly dissipates but with some stick to the side of the glass. It smells of cocoa, dark chocolate. The taste isn't far off from the smell, which is always a good sign. Dark chocolate flavors with no real bitterness except way in the back that lingers like roasted dark nuts. The feel is my only complaint, as it is creamy, but with very little carbonation. Still, very potable and drinkable!

Serving: 12 oz bottle ("PKG 09/05/2017"), poured into a 7 oz Libbey Gibraltar glass.

Appearance: Hazy reddish brown with a brief head of khaki bubbles.

Smell: Mild, malty aroma of toasted grains and cocoa beans.

Taste: Warmly malty without becoming sweet; toasted grains, dark toast, cocoa and slight caramel and fruity esters. Earthy, bitter hops draw to a clean close.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a creamy feel and moderate carbonation.

Overall: A solid brown ale with full malt profile and balancing hops.

Bottled 8-23-17
Brown/orange/amber clear with a 1" beige colored head. Head has good retention and falls slowly - nice lacing left behind.
Brown sugar, caramel, grainy malt, light chocolate tone. Hint of a grassy hop, maybe? Smells clean.
Malty, with the flavors coming thru same as mentioned in the aroma...maybe a hint of fruitiness (yeast maybe?) balanced though, very drinkable.
Between medium and full mouthfeel. Carbonation seems lighter and fits the beer. Finishes dry which is awesome....
Enjoyed this and happy to have it in TX!

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via a friend from work---Thanks Randy!
This mighty nice brown pours a lightly chill hazed red tinged brown with medium clarity
and a nice head of khaki foam that settles to a thick ring and layer with fantastic lacing.
Nose of roasted malts with a touch of chocolate. Flavors exceed the nose with deep
roasted notes bordering on coffee with touches of chocolate and mild char notes with
a balanced herbal hop note. Nice mouth feel; medium body, medium carbonation, and a
roasted malt finish balanced with hops.

Overall, as always a solid offering from a great brewer.

Cheers
