Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
A smooth, toasty brown ale with hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

Been a while since I had a Brown Ale. I can't think of a better brewery to choose from in Bells.
Best brown pours a dark brown/mahogany collar with a modest head. It soon dissipates into a thin ring like collar.
There is a rich malt aroma consisting of sweet dark caramel, nutty, and biscuity. There is even a hint of dank herbal hops that are IPA like. A light roast gives off a coffee aroma that is Porter like.
Medium bodied in the mouth with a mild sweetness. Big, even slightly robust malt profile with a silky and creamy feel. Flavors of dark bread crust, dark caramel, toffee, toasted malt, modest hops bitterness for balance. A light roast imparts coffee flavors and blurs the lines between brown ale and Porter. Creamy malt depth with a moderate carbonation. Spicy and slightly sticky hops flavor.
Complex and soulful. A dynamic brew. Who said Brown Ale is boring?

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Beautiful brown color with a nice beige foamy head and lacing. Sweet rich smell. Tastes of many things. It is nutty, sweet, toffee, dark bread, cola. Very nice brown ale.

Dark brown with an unbroken tan froth. Smells faintly metallic and nutty with some caramel sweetness working its way in. Tastes faintly nutty and toasty with other notes of plum, grain and brown sugar. Light to medium and fairly crisp as these go.

Old school tasty goodness.

Pours a deep brown with good foamy head and sticky lacing. Smells sweet, nice malty hit with mix of toasted caramel and some biscuit notes. The taste is very light and sweet, getting same flavors as nose and very smooth, this is a nice and easy ale on fall night, lots of flavor but zero bite or weight so you can enjoy a few by the fire. Light to medium feel.

Dark amber color. 2-finger head. Nose of brown sugar, a bit of dark fruit. Flavor is nutty, dryer than I expected, almost unnoticeable hops. This seems to be a lighter, less sweet BBB than the ones I used to drink in Michigan 20 years ago. A nice, mellow brew. —Reviewed 2017/09/06

12oz bottled 8/12/17 poured into a pint glass at fridge temp 5.8% ABV. The beer pours light brown and bright with ruby highlights if held to light. The head is dense chocolate tan in color and leaves substantial lacing. The aroma is cocoa and caramel and is notable but not strong. The taste follows the nose with more cocoa and caramel with a perfectly offsetting earthy bitterness to close. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, well carbonated and carries a barely noticeable tang on the finish similar to a porter. Overall, excellent. This beer is flavorful, balanced and very well made. Recommended if you find it fresh.

16oz draft pour into a pint glass is an enticing light mahogany brown body with just a whisper of a cream colored head. Slight lacing.
Aroma and flavor is caramel malt with toffee sans any bitterness.
Mouthfeel is clean, medium, with no heaviness or aftertaste. I just need a bonfire.
Overall a very nice beer with my meatloaf and with a cigar later.

Deep, unfiltered brown color with a head that dissipated rather quickly. A lot of malt and caramel on the nose. Same with the flavor, a lot of malt and caramel coming through. Very light bodied beer. It's good, I'd definitely drink more.

Poured from 16oz can into Seidel mug. Canned on August 9th 2017.

L: Murky russet brown, with a finger width khaki head that has pretty good retention.

S: Dark roasted malts, with some caramel and toffee, no hops on the nose.

T: Semi-sweet, caramel and toffee, nice bitterness, toasty flavors, nice hops.

F: Medium-Full body, crisp, dry, smooth and creamy.

O: A very very good Brown ale. Another great beer from Bell's.
