Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Notes / Commercial Description:
A smooth, toasty brown ale with hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

Poured into a glass mug.

Look: Nice reddish brown juice with lacing that sticks around in your glass.

Smell: A medley of sweet roasted notes.

Taste: This is quite a pleasant beer to drink. I get a lot of malt with a nice sweetness like caramel. There's a very small hint of bitters (hops) to balance the sweetness (malt). I'm not a fan of bitter beers and this is by no means a bitter beer. Just a small hint of it for balancing the sweetness. It tastes like a really good Italian crusty bread, caramel, and a little bit of hops.

Feel: Somewhere in the middle. Not watery but not heavy and thick. A perfect balance I'd say.

Overall: I'm not a big fan of brown ales but this one is really good. I actually enjoyed putting this one away. I'd certainly drink it again. I think this would qualify as being a great session beer. Good job Bell's this was a good brew!

A beautiful red-brown color. 1 finger deep head that was well sustained with moderate lacing. There is a solid caramel aroma escaping from the glass. The roasted malt and caramel flavor is prominent, but not overwhelming. The taste does not linger, or leave a prolonged feel.

First had poured from 12-oz. bottle, label stamped "PKG 08/14/2017," into faceted mug. Beautiful red-brown ale. Not too sweet, or too much caramel, with just the right touch of drying hops.

L- Pours a slightly hazy dark brown that turns to read on sides of glads. A one-finger, creamy, one-finger head. Lots of thick lacing on the side.
S- Sweet carmel malts.
T- Wonderful toasted carmel malt up front. Slight coffee and chocolate. Slight hop in the back end.
F- Quite smooth with nice little bitter kickback.
O- a darn good brown.

Classic autumn hue, good head with retention. Aroma is pretty light - mostly just some mild caramel malt with some hops, very faint coffee. Taste is good - malt isn't too heavy, elements of nut and caramel malt, bittering hops at the end. What you would expect, well made but a little boring.

12oz bottle, dated 8.14.17, poured into a Bells tulip glass.

The beer pours a deep brown color, dark amber and copper hues, fairly opaque with a foamy bone colored head, two fingers tall with good retention and nice swatches of lace cling to the glass. The aroma is nice, lots of rich bready malt, amber grain, caramel and brown sugar, light piney hops linger well with a pleasant earthy and grassy quality. The flavors are good, brown sugar comes out nicely with loads of caramel and amber malts, nice and bready, rich with a light amount of chocolate before the counterbalance of piney hops and earthiness sets in and lingers well. The mouthfeel is good, lighter medium body, lively carbonation, nice texture that coats pretty well with a soft, crisp and dry finish.

Verdict: A good brown ale from Bell's Brewery, really easy and pleasantly balanced. Good for a nice, cool and crisp Autumn afternoon and pairs well with a good meal.

Poured from bottle to pilsner glass. Glowing light brown ale topped with a few fingers of off-white head. Aromas of toasted malts, some caramel. Flavors of smooth chocolate, caramel, dark breads, and some fruity (green apple, pear) notes. One of my favorite browns, just wish it was more than seasonal.
