Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Notes / Commercial Description:
A smooth, toasty brown ale with hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

Pours a cloudy ruby brown color with one finger off white head.

Scent of brown sugar, malts and a light nuttiness make this one enjoyable and light scent.

Taste of brown sugar balanced with some roasted malts. A slight grassy flavor on the finish. Some alcohol is apparent as the beer warms.

Mouthfeel is light and a little oily.

A good session beer and a very enjoyable brown.

Appearance: This beer has great color very true to the style. It is brown amber with just the right light brown head with lace that has an awesome amount of staying power.

Smell: It has a very sweet aroma with a bit of coffee like tones.

Taste: It taste was extremely malty with pasture like earthy tones. It is a bit nutty but not overwhelming.

Mouthfeel: It has a nice medium feel with a bit of bit at first but that quickly settles.

Overall: I loved this one. A great beer with a great look.

Pours a solid brown with lighter amber hues and nice white head.

The smell is sweet and malty with some nutiness.

The taste is light malt, nuts and very light hop bitterness. The flavours are very subtle but complex enough to at least make it decent.

The mouthfeel is light with medium carbonation.

Overall a decent brown ale a little light for my tastes but enjoyed the one bottle I bought.

Appearance: Pours a clear red-brown color with a small head of tiny off white bubbles that didn't stick around for long at all. There are only a few bubbles rising, but they don't maintain the head.

Aroma: I get a nice mix of malt and hops that is so balanced that I hesitate to pick the dominant aromatic. I get a little sweet caramel and a tad of toast from the malt side of the equation, and there is a soft noble-like floral hop contribution weighing in on the hop side. There is a slight metallic note noticeable as you get deeper into the aroma.

Taste: The flavor is really pleasant and also reflects a nice mix of malt and hops. The malt starts out the profile with some sweet caramel, a hint of toast, and a slight roasty edge. It isn't long before the hops show up and make their way to the foreground. The hops keep up the pace until the finish where the malt, a slight mineral flavor, and the alcohol share the lead for the finish. The alcohol is the flavor that sticks with you the longest after the sip.

Opinion: Like all of Bells beers, I am not disappointed in this one. It has a good clean flavor that isn't too bold as to be annoying one way or the other. In flavor, it may have more American ingredients, but retains the British balance of flavor...except in the finish where the water is clean enough to leave the palate fresh rather than dry and chalky. This is a pretty good beer, and I wouldn't mind trying it again if the opportunity presented itself.

T: Dry, sweet, lightly toasted malt and a nice nutty flavor throughout. Some quiet hops in the finish.

M: Great flavor, easy drinking. Sweet, nutty flavor lingers on the palate.

O: Fits the style well. Good English Brown Ale.

This beer poured a cloudy, reddish brown color and formed a huge nice light tan bubbly head that left some nice latticed lace. A heavy amount of carbonation is present. A slight aroma of malt, hops and caramel. A flavor of hops and caramel. A farily light finish but dry finish with a touch of caramel sweetness. Another good beer from Bell's.
