Appearance: pours a deep brown almost black color. A finger plus of a tan head forms and has good retention. Very small lacing around the base of the glass. Opaque due to the darkness.

Smell: chocolate, oatmeal and espresso. Lighter notes of roast and possibly some dark fruit.

Taste: opens with some strong roast leaning towards an espresso. The middle is full of a nice bitter and dark chocolate along with a bite of oatmeal. Finishes with a nice roasted to hoppy bitterness.

Mouthfeel: lighter. Some sweetness but large amounts of bitterness both from dark malts and hops. Smooth and silky feel.

Overall: another killer stout/dark beer from bells. Unique enough in their lineup but able to hold its own with their other stouts.

Bell's rocks, and so does this beer that seems kind of intimidating to those who don't typically drink stouts. It's timid yet full of flavor. I'd drink it again and again.

On tap at Joe Bean Coffee Roasters in Rochester, NY.

Pours a dark black, with a little bit of visible carbonation near the top of the glass, a small half inch head, and some small splotches of lacing down the glass.

Smells like chocolate, roasted malt, and some slight coffee.

The taste is similar. There's a nice interplay between subtle mild chocolate and coffee flavors, and more overaching roasted malt flavors. More bitterness than sweetness here.

Medium bodied, pretty full and thick, creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation.

This one's great, I think it's draft only, so it's nice to get a chance to try it.
