Dark brown, head around 1/3", beige in color, small bubbles. Aroma was porter like, roast, brown malt, toffee, earthy rye quality to it. Seems like its equal parts brown ale and porter going into it at this point.

Taste, more toffee and brown malt flavors, minimal chocolate, not a huge amount of roast on this one. Just a smidgen of some acrid smoke. Not my favorite Bell's offering at all, but there is nothing wrong with it, in fact, it is actually a good beer.

Rich cocoa and peppery rye dominate the aroma.

Flavor is modestly roasty and very chocolatey at first, finishing lightly bitter and rye dominant. There's some dark fruit notes that add complexity.

This beer was very comforting. Started out with a strong flat cola taste (I find this to be positive), and finshed with a bunch of roasted coffee.

Drank from a growler filled the day before from Bell's new growler fill system. Opened with a big pop.

Appearance: pours dark and deep mahogany almost black. a two or so finger head that fades fairly slowly and leaves behind a lacing. Pretty much opaque but lots of brown around the edges.

Smell: lots of earthy spicy rye, semi sweet chocolate and a little bit of roasted malts.

Taste: opens with a semi sweet chocolate. through the middle comes in a spicy and earthy rye, that begins to blend with some slightly bitter roasted malt character.

Mouthfeel: fairly full bodied, nice earthy spicy bitterness that isn't overly assertive.

Overall: a extremely drinkable and tasty stout. probably one of the more flavorful non-imperials I have had in a while. The flavors all blend together really nicely.
