Drank from a growler filled the day before from Bell's new growler fill system. Opened with a big pop.

Appearance: pours dark and deep mahogany almost black. a two or so finger head that fades fairly slowly and leaves behind a lacing. Pretty much opaque but lots of brown around the edges.

Smell: lots of earthy spicy rye, semi sweet chocolate and a little bit of roasted malts.

Taste: opens with a semi sweet chocolate. through the middle comes in a spicy and earthy rye, that begins to blend with some slightly bitter roasted malt character.

Mouthfeel: fairly full bodied, nice earthy spicy bitterness that isn't overly assertive.

Overall: a extremely drinkable and tasty stout. probably one of the more flavorful non-imperials I have had in a while. The flavors all blend together really nicely.

Draft at Bells. Pours dark brown/black with minimal head. Aroma is distinctive rye grain, citrus fruits. Taste is big hit of citrus, rye, smokey tones. Rye is the star and comes out nicely balanced. Delicious. This is trendy these days but Bells was out ahead of the curve and has produced another good variant here.
