Style: American Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.10%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Double Cream Stout derives its name from its smooth, creamy texture, not the ingredients. Completely dairy-free, this stout blends ten different specialty malts to yield a remarkable depth of flavor. With only a touch of burnt notes, Double Cream Stout focuses on the softer, cocoa & espresso-like aspects of roasted malt.

Bottle dated 8/15/16. Michigan craft pint.

A: pours an opaque black with just a touch of brown at the edge when held to the light. One finger of thick, foamy tan head. Not much retention, a thick ring, and modest lacing, at best. Hey, it's 3 months old.

S: mild roastiness, sweet, molasses-like smell. You kind of have to hunt for it a little, though. Some stouts jump out at you from the pour. This one is nice, but a little subdued.

T: definitely a sweet stout in style, but honestly less sweet than the last several I've had. Very mild sweetness on the palate with that molasses like character making itself known. More roast on the finish than the nose or the palate, but still not huge. Less roasty than Founders porter, even. A little hop woodiness on the end.

M: heavier side of midweight. Low carbonation. Slick, but not unpleasantly so.

O: this is really satisfying and, classically Bell's, super drinkable. Still, it's not a profound beer, just a good all around stout. Slightly sweet. I'd love to compare this side by side with the Kalamazoo stout.

Taste: Bold toasted bittersweet chocolate malt, smooth, smoked, dry. The same with the nose.
Black/Brown in color, opaque, smaller cream colored head with delicate lace. Medium, almost full body. Creamy, not really sweet.

Pours dark blackish brown. Fizzy tan head dissipates leaving a ring of fizzy foam along the outside of the beer. Opqaue even when held to the light.

Smell has notes of chocolate, cream, coffee, and roasted malts. Its overall subdued, but has a nice array.

Taste follows the nose with a nice array of milk chocolate, cream, coffee, and roasted malts. No lactose like flavors yet it tastes like a milk stout - I love it! Nice hint of bitterness on the back end really balances out the sweetness present. Id take this over a more traditional milk stout any day.

Feel is nice and smooth. Good body on it. Medium carbonation.

Really nice American stout. Smooth, easy drinking - great flavor profile.

12 oz bottle. Pours near black, two finger off white head, good retention and coating lace. Mild cocoa chocolate aroma. Creamy chocolate cocoa taste, lacto-like sweetness, toasty finish with touch of burnt sugar. Thin to medium soft feel. Overall a good sweet light chocolate dessert beer.

12oz bottle. 8/23/16 bottle date. Appearance: Black, opaque, with a low brown head that dissipates quickly. Aroma: Sweet chocolate, some bread crust, a light roasted coffee edge with a touch of cream. Overall aroma is low in intensity. Taste: Starts with bittersweet dark chocolate, followed by some bread crust, then turning to light coffee roast and moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy body with a velvety creaminess. Low carbonation. Finish: Leaves a dry, bitter, light roast. Overall: A very well balanced sweet stout that is a nice blend of chocolate, toast, and coffee with a creaminess that softens the roast and bitterness

I think this beer is really unique in terms of being pretty reserved, delicate, and easy drinking - but also providing layers of rich malty flavor. has some creamy milkyness to it, as well as sweet chocolate, hints of espresso, roasty malts, tobacco, leather, hints of dark fruit. mouthfeel is light/medium but maintains that nice creamy aspect that i enjoy in stouts. overall very impressive in its drinkability and flavor, nice job!!
