On tap, has a black look with light head. Coffee and dark fruit smell. Taste follows the smell closely. Some, but not much vanilla involved in either smell or taste. Thin body, only a 9% beer. It's enjoyable, especially if you want a bba stout without something huge and boozy.

this is great stuff, one of the better bells releases i have had lately. havent been over the moon on too many of their recent obscure beers, and was worrying they were slipping a little bit, but this has restored my faith completely. a barrel aged stout with coffee and vanilla, and it is successful on so many levels. for one, the alcohol isnt insanely high, its high, but its not in the 12% abv range where it ha to taste either naked boozy, or sweet in an attempt to cover it up, at this level, it can just be. the vanilla is strong in the aroma of this slick shiny black brew, but its not overpowering in the flavor, where it helps integrate the whiskey super well. i like these barrels way more in this context than i did in the barrel aged jupiter, where they kind of took over a bit. this is nice because the beer can hold a high degree of whiskey flavor and not lose its identity, and thats exactly what is going on here. the coffee tastes fresh, bitter for balance, but also earthy and darkly roasted with notes of chocolate and licorice, really great addition to the beer. oak smoothes it out, it has a slippery feel but is not overly heavy, and the vanilla and just a bit of the dark malt is all thats left on the tongue after the swallow, my favorite moment of this one. i know they didnt get a whole lot of these kegs out there, so i feel lucky to have tried this one, soe downright impressive stout from bells! heavy vanilla if thats your thing, almost smells like lotion, but all in a good way of course. this is great stuff!

Bells 355 vanilla coffee

A: Pours jet black in color with a 1/2 inch, foamy, light tan colored head with minimal retention. Thick, tan lacing throughout.

S: Mainly aromas of vanilla and coffee on the nose. Lighter notes of chocolate, caramel, raisins, and dark fruits along with hints of the whiskey barrel.

T: Starts off with big notes of coffee, vanilla, and dark chocolate followed by caramel, dark fruit, as well as a nice mild whiskey barrel character. Coffee, vanilla, and dark chocolate come back around on the finish as the beer warms and leave a mild lingering bitterness.

F: Full bodied, thick, smooth and creamy. Light carbonation.

O: Overall, a great BA Imperial stout. Nice vanilla and coffee notes. Easy drinking. Would definitely give this one a try again.
