a great big brown from bells, but i think the whiskey barrel treatment on this one takes over a little bit, more like whiskey than beer in some ways, and some of that impressive grain depth and nuance is lost to sweet vanilla sugar, heavy charred oak, and hot alcoholic sting. murky looking and near still after the initial pour. nothing to stare at. aroma of heavy bourbon, very sweet, with some medium weight chocolate tones underneath, sweet oak, toffee, even maple. the flavor is dominated by the whiskey and the barrel, both really strong and the brown ale underneath seems overwhelmed. i like the flavors, dont get me wrong, i enjoy whiskey very much, but we almost lose the beer. this had to be in barrels for a long time, or else the barrels werent all the way drained or something, its really powerful. the booze here is much to much, especially with it being a little flat, it comes up hot and quick and doesnt subside at all. vanilla and brown sugar and wood along with it in the finish. this is not as complex and interesting as i hoped it would be, but if you like bourbon, this should definitely appeal to you. overall, it didnt wow me, as much as i did enjoy it, i expected more.

Taste: Smooth, semi sweet whiskey notes, hints of toffee, vanilla, and hops are subtle.
Oak barrel whiskey nose. Black/brown, semi clear, delicate lacy head. Medium/Medium full body. Solid brown ale with that oak barrel aged flavor.

With months of sitting, simmering and sulking in whisky barrels the fine, young and gentlemanly brown ale that went into those whisky barrels comes out a brand new manly taste.
With a rich magohany pour, Traverse City Whisky Jupiter Ale floats a rich chocolate, caramel, and toffee scent over a dainty swirl of coffee creme. Toasty, spicy and with those whisky tingling textures on the nose, the flavors lead with a savory, toasty, chocolaty and nutty taste.
Although bold and robust, the beer's soft toastiness allows the whisky to shine. Not rivaled by the roast of stout by any measure, the somewhat finesse oriented ale allows the peppery spice, the oaken nuance, the wood caramels and vanillans to add complexity to the toasty, chocolaty and caramelized malt flavors naturally. Finely hopped for a spicy and herbal balance, a tea-like presence brings about a broad and woodsy bite.
Full, creamy and slathering the tongue with decadence, the beer's malty-sweet influence lends an after dinner digestive taste and texture looming. Nutty, toasty and spicy, the imperial brown ale trends long, savory and robust on the after palate.
