A traditional doppelbock fermented with an old world lager yeast. Reddish brown in color, with a mild hop profile, Consecrator is a well balanced, full bodied beer with a smooth, malty finish.

Bottle poured into pint glass

Appearance: lacing on top of a cloudy amber-brown brew. Looks thick and inviting.

Smell: Maple sugar, molasses, raw honey and malt.

Taste: follows the nose along with tastes of bread crumbs, butter and yeast. Carbonation sort of "zings" in the mouth. Leaves the palate a little dry with residual phenols and sweet, as if you had just finished some candy. Mouthfeel is nice and thick.

Drinkability: Almost perfect, in my book. Great beer for the cold spring leading to a warm summer.

The clear dark reddish amber colored beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 1/2” light tan head that recedes slowly but visibly to a thin irregular island of foam on the surface while leaving a few legs and patches of lacing on the sides and a small ring around the glass. Sipping leaves some scattered patches of foam, meany of which slide back down to the liquid.

The aromas include some toasted brown bread, some caramel and some dark stone fruits,

The flavors are much as expected from the nose with the toasted brown bread, some caramel and a bit of dark stone fruits (plums, raisins, etc.). There’s also some earthy herbal bitterness in the background.

The mouthfeel is on the full side of medium bodied and fairly smooth with light to moderate carbonation. The finish begins as the bready caramel sweetness and dark fruits begin to fade away while a bit of light earthy herbal bitterness persists to the dry ending in the back of the palate.

On the whole a well made example of a Doppelbock that shows lots of malt but is not overly sweet. There’s just enough bitterness to prevent the sweetness from becoming cloying. A drinkable, enjoyable beer that might be a nice change once in a while from Trogenator by Troegs.

Raisin-like reddish brown in color with a heavy haze. Poured with a short, creamy beige foam with medium low retention. Full bodied with medium light carbonation. Light creamy smooth feel up front with expanding warmth that turns prickly at the finish. Aromas of sweet malt and lightly toasted bread with dark fruits and grainy malt notes. Bready, rich malt flavors up front with light dark fruit notes. Medium light earthy bitterness through the middle the transitions to boozy warmth. Finished with a boozy note that lingered along with pleasant malty flavors. Nice malty flavors and definitely on the boozy side, but not unpleasantly so.

From 2d2dspuma. In Teku glass. Playing Avernum 4. Bottled 19 Jan 2016. 28+ months after bb date. Typical notes of a doppelbock still here but drier than desiderable. A bit boring. No foam at all

On tap into snifter at Fins in Bethany Beach DE. Pours a clear brownish-red with a nice off-white head. Initial impression is molasses, roasted malt, caramel, and dark fruits. Alcohol is well hidden. No hops. Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat sticky. Finish is sweet and a little bit dank. Pretty good example of the style.

12oz bottle into Libbey Tulip
Bottled on 1/31/18 (6 months old)
Pours garnet with thin cream brown head
Fruit, toffee, caramel, cherries
Sugary fruity caramel, that goes into a bitter yeasty finish
No mistaking this is a lager, nice and crisp
Overall i thought i can take this past the Best By date a bit (bell's says 3 months past bottling date) but this definitely has signs of age....oh well

Dark bronze, head dissipates quickly; pleasant mild aroma; smooth, mildly carbonated; rich flavor, slightly sweet; this is a pleasant, interesting beer, but it won't become a favorite.
