The name “Larry’s Latest” is a nod to the spirit of innovation and experimentation that Larry started in 1985 and continues within the brewery to this day. Our latest sour recipe has a refreshingly bright, citrusy tartness combined with pungent tropical aromas.

Bell's Brewery "Larry's Latest Sour"
$7/pint @ Union Tavern, Philadelphia, PA on 14 April 2018

Notes: Slightly hazy deep golden body beneath a short head of white. The aroma offers sweet lemon, like lemonade with some orange added in. The flavor follows, not too tart, and not what I'd call sour, but noticeably tart. For a sour beer it's not mineralish at all, and the grainy malt supports the acidity and citrus flavors nicely. Light-medium in body and gently crisp and bristling on the tongue, accentuated slightly by the acidity. Overall it's a very basic, middle of the road sour, but it's also a very drinkable and refreshing middle of the road sour. I'd come back to this in the future. Well done.

Lightly clouded, bright golden color, slim white head.

In the nose: wild, tart funkitude. Lactic sourness. Little hop bitterness. Flash of citrus.

In the mouth: Refreshing tartness at the forefront. Citrus-y and tropical fruit flavors tango on the palate, hops come in and join the fun. Sour remains on top. Light bodied, with long, lingering tart twang. Definitely downable, for the sourheads out there. Go ahead and get one, it won't hurt you none.

Larry's Latest Sour | Bell's Brewery - Eccentric Café & General Store. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this has a two finger thick head, spotty lacing, and a deep gold body.

Smells like chinook and citra hops with tropical fruits.

I taste a very pleasant blend of the hops and tart flavors. Outrageously clean and refreshing finish.

Medium mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

I've chosen to rate Larry's Latest Sour | Bell's Brewery - Eccentric Café & General Store with an overall 4.25. Hope this is around for summer.

12 oz bottle from the Wall of Beer (Clemson, SC; $1.89) with a January 2018 date stamp on the label.
Pours slightly hazy and amber with visible carbonation rising to a good white head that leaves patchy lacing.
Aroma: tart and fruity, with some lemon and orange notes. Clean and balanced for style.
Flavor: largely follows the aroma; Mild tartness for style with a nice mix of tropical fruit notes.
Feel: medium body with medium carbonation.

Great value in a sour beer. Fruity taste although I don't think they actually added fruit. Doesn't have much if any of that peppery aftertaste some sour beers have (which I love) so I get the impression "kettle souring" is a sort of short cut process for making sour beers, but whatever. I'm not a connoisseur but I really enjoy this and wish they would make it all the time.

Look is like a typical classic pale ale to be honest with an initial 1 finger head that disappears quickly but leaves nice retention.

Aroma is a mix of grain and funk. Surprising that what I figured to be a kettle sour has some funk going on here to it which seems kinda rare to me for a non-barrel aged sour.

Taste is tart, mild sour, grain, funk, slight citrus. Wow, they really created quite the complex (there it is) beer for what I thought was a typical store shelfie.

Feel is nearly perfect. Carbed and light in body, but then it finishes super clean with no residuals.

Overall - This beer was quite the pleasant surprise to me and I had very reserved expectations. Bell's has really nailed a really good wild ale here in 12oz - 6pack is just a steal. If you are a fan of wild ales/sours and aren't a pretentious D-bag, this beer should really be a great find for those just looking for something extremely well crafted at a low price and easy to find.

Pours a cloudy maize color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Slight retention and poor lacing. Smells of fruit, yeast, bacterial funk, slight alcohol, slight sweet malt, and a hint of salt. Fits the style of an American Wild Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is a noticeable dryness and slight tartness. Tastes of fruit, yeast, bacterial funk, slight alcohol, slight sweet malt, and a hint of salt. Overall, weak appearance, but good aroma, body, and blend.

A supremely balanced sour. There's grapefruity, grassy hops that pair perfectly with the sour's distinctly green-apple hues. This beer is perfectly geared for refreshment, and is easy to pound down.

Larry's Latest Sour brewed by Bell's Brewery - Eccentric Café & General Store, with an ABV of 5.00% This American Wild Ale pours Ina pint beer glass from a 12oz bottle a nice deep golden amber color. There is a nice white have with a decent amount of lacing, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with sourness, with grains and malts. You pick up on some faint hops in the smell as well. Now for the taste, it is really sour with earthy grains an malts. The body of the Larry's Latest Sour is a medium. This is definitely a sour brew, if you don't like sour this is not the brew for you. The mouth feel is Bold, Sour, Clean and Refreshing. Overall I'm going to give this brew a 3 out of 5. This brew would go nice on a hot summer day. I would look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Bell's Brewery - Eccentric Café & General Store, did a decent job with this brew.
