Bottled 10/04/17

Appearance - Poured into a 12oz tulip. Light tan, near finger width head. Decent retention results in a thin, broken layer of suds with a fair ring around the edge of the glass. Good amount of lacing with broken webbing and spotting.

Smell - Strong coffee aroma. Faint chocolate and caramel.

Taste - Follows the nose. Flavorful coffee character upfront and throughout. Faint smoke. Bits of chocolate and caramel come through delicately in the finish before fading with the coffee roast in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Silky smooth texture with an easy finish.

Overall - Not as good, but reminds me a lot of Founders Sumatra Mountain Brown. Very strong coffee flavor. It does not disappoint.

Pour: dark brown with slight rust tinge. One to two fingers tan head. Dissipated pretty quickly but nice ring around the top of the glass well after the pour. Some bubbles clinged to the glass but not much lacing.

Nose: robust coffee aroma dominates as you would expect. Not much else that I could detect. Maybe not complex, but enjoyable.

Taste: coffee dominates here as well with some nice roast malts and bitterness. Maybe some burnt toast with some lactose sweetness in the backend. Again, like the nose, the coffee dominates.

Mouth: A little thinner than I expected but not watery. Relatively light carbonation suits me. Some creaminess comes through. It’s an easy drink.

Overall: an enjoyable beer and easy drinking. But, you have to like coffee to like this beer. I like coffee but can’t say I’d buy tho regularly. More of an occasional for me.

Pours jet black with a nice tan head and sticky lacing. The nose is amazing, full on coffee with a nice roasted malt, oats, and some smokey goodness. The taste follows the nose, I have to say the coffee on this beer is top end, this is truly amazing. I have been waiting on this beer and its a home run in my book. Very clean and smooth, medium feel and amazing flavors.

I picked up a bottle of Bell's Arabicadabra at The Lager Mill. It's been a while since I've had a new beers from Bells and I'm interested to see what they can do with this coffee stout, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a snifter.

A- The label looks good, it goes well with the name and it's a little eye catching. It poured a black color that didn't change when held to the light and it had a little over two fingers worth of creamy and slightly bubbly darker tan head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some spotty lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the coffee being first to show up and it imparts a big and bold dark coffee flavor that is really roasty and just a little nutty. Up next comes a slight bit of doughy yeast followed by a noticeable sweet and creamy aroma. Towards the end comes the malts which are a little on the lighter side and they impart some dark malt, roasted malt, chocolate and sweet malt like aromas. This beer has a good aroma, the coffee aspect is nice and it's what I would expect from a coffee stout.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the coffee still being the first to show up and it imparts all the same aspects that it did in the aroma and it's just a little less roasty and robust. Up next comes a little bit of doughy yest with that same sweet and creamy aspect and it leads into the malts which show up just as much as they did in the aroma and they impart all the same aspects with no single one seeming to stick out the most. On the finish there's higher amount of low bitterness with a nice coffee aftertaste. This is a good tasting Coffee Stout, it's just what I expect from the style.

M- Smooth, crisp, slightly creamy, on the thicker side of being medium bodied with a slightly higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is good and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a good beer and it's a good example of the style, it had pretty much all the aspects that I look for in a good coffee stout and they all came together nicely with the coffee really being showcased. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple without getting bored of it. What I like the most about this beer is that it really delivers for a coffee stout, no aspect is lacking. What I like the least about this beer is nothing, nothing stuck out as hurting this beer. I would buy this beer again and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good Coffee Stout. All in all I enjoyed this beer and it turned out just as I was hoping it would. It's not a favorite Bells beer, but it's a good example of the style. Good job guys, this is one tasty Coffee Stout, keep it up.

12oz bottle, PKG 10/04/17
Near black body with a creamy light brown head that fades to a foam. Great coffee aroma with cream, roasted barley, and dark cocoa. Really nice flavors meld well with notes of dark chocolate, creamed dark roast coffee, roasted barley, toasty grain, and some caramel in the background; earthy hops add some modest bitterness. Very creamy medium body, modest carbonation, finishing balanced with dark cocoa, coffee, and earth riding out the finish. Overall, fantastic coffee milk stout!

Pours opaque dark brown in color with minimal head. Taste is deep roast coffee and roasted malt. Heavy bodied, low carbonation and roasty. Makes for a straightforward coffee beer..ok but have had better.

Black in color with a fingernail of brown on top around most of the rim and covering about half of the top. The aroma is of bitter dark roasted coffee and a hint of sweet lactose. I'm tasting a blend of the bitter, dark roasted coffee and sweet, creamy lactose. The mouth is velvety smooth and viscous.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours dark blackish brown. Moderate amount of bubbles and a slight finger of tan head that settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A roasty and toasty malt driven aroma with a scent of coffee, milk, and toast. Upfront scent of coffee beans. Toasted malt scent of biscuit, toast, grains, chocolate, nuts, oats, and caramel with some yeast. Sweet hints of milk and vanilla. Hints of earthy hops. A really good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a roasty and toasty malt driven taste with notes of coffee, milk, and toast. Big taste of coffee beans. Toasted malt notes of toast, biscuit, chocolate, grains, nuts, oats, and caramel along with yeast. Sweet taste of milk and vanilla. Undertones of earthy hops. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy and pretty smooth.

Overall: A really good Coffee/Milk Stout. Big coffee flavor with a nice balance of roasty bitterness and sweetness.

12 oz bottle with a 17 October 2017 bottling date.

Appearance: a fairly gentle pour raised a tall, dense, tan head. Essentially black, opaque body. Plenty of lacing was left on the glass.

Coffee dominated aroma with hints of dark dried fruits. Good coffee aroma, but the coffee flavor is stronger than the aroma suggests. Excellent, mildly bitter, bitter-sweet balance. Fine coffee and dark bread aftertaste.
Very smooth, full body with light carbonation.

Looks like a good stout and smells like sweet cold brew. A good smell, if a little one-dimensional. The taste begins bitter and harsh, mellowing out into a sweeter, smoother finish. You've really gotta be in the mood for coffee to drink this beer. The milk-stoutyness of the beer becomes lost in the overwhelming coffee notes, and while this beer is solid as a coffee stout, it is a far cry from Bell's stellar Double Cream Stout.

Very tasty coffee brew that surprised me with its combination of flavor and smoothness. Nice brown color with some tan head and spotty lingering lacing. Smells very nice, loads of roast coffee, a little chocolate and some malt. Tastes similarly, along with some vanilla, caramel, bread and roasted nuttiness. Smooth mild mouthfeel with just a touch of creaminess. Good carbonation. Flavors mellowed out when the beer warmed a little. An excellent, not overly-sweet milk stout.

Pours dark brown, nearly black, quite a lot like coffee. Head production is solid, and retention is excellent; long after the pour, there's still a solid centimeter of dark tan foam completely covering the top of the brew.

Would it surprise anyone if I said coffee dominates the nose? To the point that little else stands out? Behind a strong (but inviting) coffee aroma, one can detect hints of cream, slightly soured grapes, and bitter chocolate. Reminiscent of Founders' coffee brews (FBS, Sumatra Mountain Brown).

Not quite a one-note brew, but close, as coffee still dominates on the palate. Very little overripe dark fruit presence; chocolate notes almost completely absent; milky cream on the finish. Not unlike a thick cold coffee with cream.

Creamy on the palate, with very little carbonation sting. Silky and smooth; long wet finish. Carries more body than 5.5% brews typically can manage.

This is a very good coffee brew, but I think the low ABV costs in in depth of character. This beer is all about the adjunct, and while it certainly succeeds in being a tasty coffee milk stout - at an ABV more appropriate for AM imbibing than its bigger aforementioned cousins from Founders - I would have preferred a touch more stout in my stout.
