12oz bottle into a snifter appears black with a quick fading brown head that leaves spotty lace.

Aroma of roast, earth, anise and cherry fruitiness.

Taste has a cherry character almost like ludens cough drops with bakers chocolate, espresso and anise. Slight mealy mineral aftertaste.

Medium in body with modest carbonation, its just ok. I was kinda surprised to find this on the shelf having never heard anything about it. After tasting it, now I know why I havent heard anyone talking about it, its pretty mediocre.

Without going into too much detail this is absolutely one of my favorite stouts. The tart cherry was a nice surprise, i was expecting a sweeter cherry taste. I really really enjoyed this one. Luckily i have a couple more stashed away.

I have returned, once again from the void. All beer is welcome, all beer is appreciated, but... well, son of a bee-sting is this one excellent brew. I love Bells, one of the original greats of American Craft Brewing, the product is always well packaged, brewed and though out. One of the few stouts I haven't drank by Bells, I'm happy to say that this is an excellent beer through and through.

Cracking with a soft sigh, this deep black stout (think Expedition stout) poured with very minimal head which softened to just a slight dance around the edge of the glass (DFH snifter, 16 oz) aromas of chocolate, cherry, some smoke and vanilla. Upon warming for 5 minutes, the cherry became much more prominent, chocolate and smokey vanilla riding side by side.

Rich in color, aroma, and as it turns out... flavor, which is no surprise, Bells stouts are balanced, at least in my experience. If a stout would make me think of dessert, this is a definite candidate. Taste follows the nose with some deviation; more cherry from the get go, chocolate and smokey vanilla take the role of rhythm section with full stride. Mouthfeel is excellent as well, not super thick, a bit sticky, semi-heavy at best.

If you're a fan of Bells, or just well done flavored stouts, give this one a hearty drink on a chilly, early Autumn night... throw on some Misfits, crack a bottle or two and let the chill fill your lungs and this beer stoke the fire in your heart; or something like that.

Cheers! Thomas S.C.

12 ounce bottle - $3.79 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body with a surging, dark brown head that mellows into a layer of thinning, creamy-looking, tanned foam.

Smell: A blunt roast yielding a bit of smokiness, oak wood, meaty molasses, charred marshmallow fluff, raisin puree and spent mushroom substrate drenched in cherry syrup.

Taste: A tangy-tasting, sweet conglomeration of smoked induced, chary marshmallows and chocolate, lending a taste of chocolate Cool Whip stirred up with grenadine and rings of smoke. The cherry flavor turns a bit raisiny for me, with ribbons of altogether warming alocohol heating things up. I thought I was picking up a bit of oak in the nose, not so much in the taste, though the flavors presented are pretty dense. It stays fruity, stays pretty sweet and warm through the long finish, leaving me wishing for a cup of water.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation. Feels a bit fluffy, really, at times a little syrupy.

Overall: Ehhh. Within the treasured Bell's stable of stouts, I always was a Kalamazoo or Expedition man. That'll probably stay that way after today.

12oz bottle from Hair Of The DoG Bottle Shop (Williamsburg, VA). 4.49. Bottled 5/11/18. Served in a Bell’s snifter. Enjoyed 8/11/18.

Pours black with a three quarter finger cap of tan head. The froth falls back to a small uneven island and narrow band. A few scattered dots of lace decorate the empty glass.

My nose catches notes of roast, cherry and cooked sugar. The cherry seems to stand out more as the beer warms.

Those cherries are evident throughout in the flavor. Bittersweet cherry skin, over-toasted cereal, tart dark cherries, bakers cocoa, desweetened cherry jam, roasty malt and some cooked sugar.

Medium full, fairly creamy feel with subdued carbonation. More cherries and roast in the finish.

Bell’s has done a great job commemorating the 30th anniversary of this seasonal stout. I really appreciate how intensely cherry forward they made this. After starting with this single I think I’ll be picking up a four pack before this is gone. Well worth a try- particularly if you at all enjoy the original.

Bottled 5/10/2018. Poured moderately cold and brought to room temperature.
L: Pours dark brown, near black. About half a fingers worth of a tan bubbly head which dissipated quickly. If I swirl the beer in the glass, the small brown head will be revived. Moderate lacing is left on the glass as I drink the beer.
S: Aromas of molasses, chocolate, warm malts, walnuts, pecans, and oh, Cherries! The cherries provide a nice tart smell to the beer, and I am rather fond of it.
T: Follows the nose. Full of chocolate and malt flavor with a hint of smokyness. The finish is semi-sweet with the tartness shining through from the cherries. As it warms, it seems the cherry flavor becomes more pronounced, but it is still enjoyable. No astringent flavors, other than the tartness from the cherries.
F: Heavy and full in feeling, but not motor oil consistency. Carbonation is low to moderate. Sticky in feel with some palate coating properties.
O: I enjoyed the regular version, and I am very much so enjoying this one. The cherries and stout combo seems to work for me, at least with this beer. I am very glad to try, I would buy again, and I think it is worthy of a try. Cheers!
