12 oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- Black with a small mocha head head.

S- Roasted malts, a touch of smoke, some cherries, chocolate.

T- Chocolate, cherries, roasted malts, a little smoky, some dark fruits.

M- Smooth, full body.

O- At about a year and half old it is still a tasty stout. Cherries might be a little faded, but still has a great balance.

Packaged 5/10/2018. Pours dark brown/black with minimal head. Cherry smell is lighter than anticipated given package description. Cherry flavor is more pronounced on the tongue. Mouth feel and taste where excellent overall. Would appreciate seeing this return as a seasonal and would purchase again if brought back. Appreciate this beer much more than Bell's Cherry Stout, which I have not had reason to revisit.

Package date 5/11/18. Dark brown color with a tan head. Pours like motor oil. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Beautiful balance between tart cherry and slightly sweet chocolate malt. I appreciate how the cherry doesn’t taste artificial or icky sweet. 9.0% ABV, but doesn’t taste boozy.

6/24/19 (Chicago): $13.99 plus tax 4 pack purchased 6/8/19 at Leo's liquors, bottled 5/11/18, poured into snifter. Pitch black pour, nice creamy tan head, lingers a long time before leaving light lacing. Strong roast malt and chocolate aroma. Didn't note the cherry. Excellent creamy rich roast malt and chocolate taste, cherry backs well. Somewhat sweet but very balanced. Rich, creamy mouth feel, very nice and smooth drinking! Overall outstanding offering, looking forward to the next anniversary!

Picked up a single from TW Arrowhead 11-13-18 for $6.49. Packaged on 5-11-18; consumed on 3-8-19. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured black with a solid tan head that has some decent hang time.

Nose is roasted malts with some sweet cherry.

Taste is roasted malts, sweet cherry, a touch of chocolate and a decent amount of hopping to balance the sweetness out.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and very smooth.

Overall a solid scaled down version of Expedition stout with cherries. While good, the cherries do not improve the base recipe but it was fun to try.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 5/11/18, had 6/10/18.

Pours a dark cola color, mostly opaque, with a short head of darker foam and some spotty lacing. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, light cherries, light smoke. The taste starts with less roasted malt, then cherries, chocolate, light vanilla, a little caramel, a light tartness from the cherries. Smooth, a bit creamy, very good full body, well carbonated.

The cherries star in the flavor, and the base stout seems improved over the regular Cherry Stout. Enjoyable.

Pours a deep deep black with a thing coffee colored head.
Smells of slightly boozy cherries. Reminds me of those booze filled, chocolate covered cherries.
Taste has a surprising cherry tartness up front, even leaving light sour cherry twinge on the tongue. Smooth rich maltiness and a faint smokiness.
Mouthfeel is excellent, rich and smooth. Low carbonation on the tongue.
Overall this is a really pleasant stout. The tart cherry flavors adds an unusual dimension to a stout that is otherwise solidly pedestrian.

12 oz bottle with a 11 May 2018 bottling date stamped on the label.
Pours essentially black with a short, weak tan head. Some ruby-brown shows at the edges. Minimal lacing.
Mild and appealing aroma with notes of dried cherries. some alcohol, and dark roasted grains.
Flavor: the cherries feature less prominently here than in the aroma until some warming occurs. Some chocolate note are added.
Medium-full body with low carbonation.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep black color with a one-finger foamy dark brown head that reduces to leave nothing behind

S- equal mix of dark cherry and chocolate on the nose, reminiscent to a cherry cordial. Undertones of anise, caramel & vanilla

T- the cherry breaks through with a tartness up front, like an unripe cherry. Mid-palate turns slightly sweet, with notes of chocolate and a hint of caramel. The finish gives more cherry with a bit of a chocolate linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a slightly creamy mouthfeel that continues into the finish

O- fairly two dimensional in flavor; cherry and chocolate. Still quite enjoyable

12 FL OZ bottle
Served in a snifter

This beer pours black and is capped with less than an inch of mocha head that leaves little lacing.

The smell is dark roasted malt with dark cherries. I get hints of anise, chocolate, and coffee.

The cherry is more pronounced in the flavor. I also get chocolate and coffee with hints of anise.

Full bodied with smooth mouthfeel with low carbonation

This is a well made cherry stout. The tart cherry works well in this stout.

Sampled December 2018 from 12oz bottle in snifter style glass. There is a bottled on date of May 10, 2018 date on listed on the bottle.

Appearance: Very dark black, dark color, with a ver thin dark tan head of less than 1 finger. The head lasted only a short length of time, and did not leave much lacing on the side of the glass.

Smell: Caramel, coffee, malt aromas. There are also roasted fire aromas, along with some coffee, vanilla, and cherries in the aroma. Nice combination and balance between the aromas.

Taste: Pronounced cherry and caramel flavors. Also coffee and burnt malt flavors. Full-bodied with interesting balance of flavors. It is very smooth. There is a hint of chocolate that may be due to the oats and malts, but it has a very good taste. Light hop flavor as well. The flavors provide for a unique stout.

Mouthfeel: Full-bodied, with strong alcohol which matches with the 9.00% on the label.

Overall: This cherry Stout reserve is a very good stout. It has strong flavors as well as alcohol, and the mix of caramel, malts, and cherries makes for a unique and interesting stout. Due to the sweetness from the cherries, I will drink the rest as a dessert style beer.

12oz labeled 21468 051018 then 16:26 0055369 underneath it on the shoulder of the bottle. poured heavily into my bell's pint glass.

Appearance- the typical stout look with a dark tan head that dissipates quickly. you do see a flash of red in the pour. nothing special.

Aroma- booze. burnt caramel with some light cherry candy notes.

Taste- a tart cherry with some smokiness. alil bit boozy but nothing too crazy. bitterness is f*cked from how tart this is.

Mouthfeel- a nice medium/ heavy body with some silkiness. really solid. carbonation is spot on.

Drinkability- easily gonna crush the four pack tonight.

Overall- i don't get where other reviews were calling this sweet. it's tart. it's prolly the max tartness i could do. you almost think the carbonation is gonna be terrible from how fast the head dies down but it's fine. the mouthfeel of this sassy beer is it's highlight. if you can grab this i would. debating on grabbing another four pack.

Pours an ink black coming out of the bottle, no head at first, until nearly the end of the pour when a billowing mocha foam rises to the top. Carbonation is visible while the beer’s color takes on brown and ruby hues while in the glass.
Roasty aromas Greer the nose, including cocoa powder, light coffee roast, nutty malts and notes of toffee. The cherry aroma is merely hinted at. A peppery and spicy aroma develops throughout.
The taste opens with flavors of chocolate and moderate roasted malts. However, the middle palate brings on a strong burst of cherry juice flavor that extends into the finish. Its light tartness brightens and balances the roastiness of the malts, however, soon it becomes downright sweet. Nevertheless, the alcohol phenols provide a bit of peppery spice and heat that prevents it from being too cloying.
Full bodied, viscous and smooth. Moderately carbonated and with a slowly developing spicy alcohol warmth in the finish.
More of a sipper and definitely a dessert beer. Maybe my palate is off tonight, but I’m just not getting much of the charred, smoky and toasty malt bitterness others are talking about here, instead, I thought the cherries dominated. Although this bothered me at times, it grew on me.

Pours a thick viscous shiny black color. Lovely color. No head to speak of at any point. Very thin ring of foam along the outside of the beer.

Aroma has notes of roasted malts, bit of smokey character, hints of cherry, and notes of oak and char.

Taste has notes of charred smokey malts, hints of tobacco, chocolate, light notes of overly ripe cherry peep through, but take a back seat to the charred smokey notes. The char provides a lightly lingering bitterness on the back end.

Feel is thick, viscous, and full bodied. Coats the mouth. Semi-dry finish.

Overall this is a lovely stout. The cherries are more complimentary than punch you in the face, but I really appreciated the subtly and how it complimented the beer overall. Well done from Bell's - I hope this isn't the last I see of this one.

SUper dark and thick beer. An agressive pour only yields half a finger of brown head. nose is a little smokey, a little oakey and full of cherries. The beer is sweet and tart with a ton of cherries. The oakiness is prominent. There is a char bitterness and and some bitter dark chocolate at the end. This is a beast of a beer and it gets better the warmer it gets.

Pours a thick black with reddish hints, especially in thed thin head that was present.
Smells of roasty goodness and cherry.
Taste follows with roasty malts, some chocolate, and tart cherry. I'm enjoying the cherry in this.
Medium to full body with a good carb level. Smooth, creamy feel.
Overall a tasty one, I wouldn't expect anything less from Bells.

BOD 5/12/18. Black pour but a red hint can be seen in the head. Quite outstanding head volume. Typical retention and lacing for a 9.0% ABV, which is poor.

Outstanding nose that is rich in roast, dark chocolate and cherry. Underneath is a slightly sweet base with notes of molasses. Oak is hard to discern but becomes subtly evident as it warms.

Light heavy body that has creamy aspects. The carbonation / body balance is world class. Mid-palate effervescence is subtly prickly and provides ample flavor separation but doesn't overwhelm the body. The finish is tightly bubbled and prickly.

The flavor profile is borderline quite outstanding. Alcohol becomes slightly uncovered in the lingering finish thus adding a distracting bit of flavor and astringency. The flavor profile is similar to the nose. Roast is well balanced with a bready sweetness that has very subdued molasses notes, thus hurting complexity. As it warms, molasses does ascend a bit. Cherry delivers. It appears mid-palate and flows to tart as the sweetness fades. Chocolate is an ebb and flow between bakers and sweet. Bakers arrives first, shifts to sweet in the middle then returns through the finish. The finish is a slow fade, as described above.

Having this on-tap at the Tremont Taphouse the second day of the 10th annual Cleveland Beer Week at the Tremont Taphouse’s annual Bell’s Ruins Beer Week Tap takeover event. This beer draws a dark brown color with tan, light brown head that settles to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with a very nice surface coating film layer of foam. Good lacing too. Aromas of deep, roasted malts along definite cherry and oak along with some coffee notes. The taste is pretty much the same, with roasted malts with a hint of caramel sweetness with cherry and oak that is strongly present, but not overwhelmingly so. Also has some coffee and slightly earthy hoppiness. Very good balance of flavors. Has a smooth, also slightly crisp, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with light to moderate carbonation. Quite easy to drink. Has a slightly dry finish and aftertaste. Glad I got to try this.

Inviting black brew. Decent head production, and excellent retention, with a dark tan head that retains 1/8" for quite some time.

Initial whiff is quite roasty, but upon a deeper inhalation strong cherry tones are revealed. That's actually about it; two note, but pleasant.

Flavor matches the nose impeccably, with roasty tones up front, and cherry taking over around the middle of the first third. Cherry flavor continues to build, lasting throughout the finish, while roasted barley - translated primarily as burnt coffee, molasses, caramel, and touches of licorice and bitter chocolate - fight for occasional emergence.

Very smooth on the palate. The amount of cherries give it a mild puckering effect, but it's mostly medium-full bodied and sticky.

I love me some cherries and I think I kinda liked this one...

Beautifully black, light smell of cherries with a hint of booze in the background, mouthfeel was medium-bodied and lightly carbonated with a taste that was booze forward and hinting of the advertised cherries. Overall, it was a very good brew, nothing spectacular but very good indeed.

Not a sweet beer, thought it would be a dessert beer, but really it would be perfect as the appetizer. Chewy leathery body with more dried cherry character than ripe. Has some tobacco, roasted malt, molasses, coffee, and a dash of semi-sweet chocolate. Not rich or lacking, just a solid beer
