Notes / Commercial Description:
One of the most sought-after stouts in Bell's history, Black Note Stout blends the complex aromatics of Expedition Stout with the velvety smooth texture of Double Cream Stout and ages the combination in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months. The resulting harmony of flavors captures the finest features of all three components: malty notes of dark chocolate, espresso & dried fruits, all buoyed by the warmth and fragrance of the bourbon barrel. Aimed squarely at the stout and bourbon aficionados, Black Note makes a grand statement about the art of the dark.

2016 was perfect wouldn't of changed anything.
2017 is slightly off from that. Can't figure out why.

12 oz bottle, about one month old

jet black, thin tan head that fades to a ring round the glass. not really any lacing. aroma is strong bourbon and some chocolate. vanilla, oak are in the taste as well - it's heavy on the bourbon and boozy flavors. medium bodied, could be thicker. overall a bit underwhelmed based on it's reputation. I'll let a couple bottles age a bit.

This is a well put together beer. The smell is of strong caramel chocolate and barrel. The flavor doesn't have as much barrel as some I've tried, but that's not a bad thing. The flavor is complex and well balanced. Chocolate, dark fruit, bourbon and no off flavors to ruin it. It's not too smokey like some. It's not too boozy, too thick or thin. It's really the perfect stout to me outside of the price and availability. I could have bought a decent number of them but didn't because 11 bucks a piece is too rich for me at the moment. If you can get one, definitely give it a try though.

Black with a very small, tan head. Not much in the form of viscosity, so mouthfeel is on the lighter side for me. Nose is bourbon and alcohol. Lots of bourbon and mallassesy raisin flavor, with a boozy punch. It manages to maintain the bourbon flavor without the astringent quality that can accompany some of the higher alcohol content beers. Excellent stout.

I kind of thought Bells was all hype after getting kind of disappointed with Hopslam. This shows they are an amazing Brewery

Perfect looking BA Stout, black with ample dark tan head. Nose is very complex, bourbon, chocolate, coffee, ashy roast, caramel and some subtle dark fruit. Flavor follows the nose, huge rich stout--roast, chocolate and some caramel and dark fruit. Bourbon and oak are pronounced and complement the stout beautifully. The beer is chewy and velvety smooth, finishes slightly sweet then changes to slightly dry with lingering oak and roast. A more balanced IS with bourbon/oak opposed to a straight whiskey bomb--but make no mistake plenty of barrel character. A true work of art. Wow.
