Notes: Our Imperial Rye Ale is a rye wine style ale aged in rye whiskey barrels. It's warming and strong with big spicy oak character, and flavors of sweet burnt sugar and molasses.

Pours dark reddish brown. Foamy, thick, medium off Whitehead the Fades slowly.

Smells vanilla, brown sugar, bourbon, caramel and lightly earthy.

Taste vanilla, bourbon, light spicy Rye, caramel, brown sugar. Finish is semi-dry with a roasty and bourbony vanilla linger. Full body and smooth medium carbonation.

16 ounce crowler into snifter, filled on 4/20/2019. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, coconut, spicy rye, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, milk chocolate, cocoa, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Light increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/rye/light roasted malts, rye whiskey barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, coconut, spicy rye, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, milk chocolate, cocoa, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, peppery hop bitterness; and rye/whisky/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, coconut, spicy rye, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, brown bread/crust, licorice, milk chocolate, cocoa, dark fruit, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Insane complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/rye/light roasted malts, rye whiskey barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness, and rye/whisky/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from bitterness and rye/whisky/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, bready mouthfeel that is insane. Light slickness, sticky hops, chalky roast, and oak tannins lingering after the finish. Mild increasing warmth of 12.5%, with zero lingering barrel booze lingering after the finish. Overall this is an insane barrel aged rye wine! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/rye/light roasted malts, rye whiskey barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/spicy/tannic/drying finish. Amazingly soft feel. Perfectly balanced between rich dark/rye/bready malts, and rye whiskey barrel presence/integration; with mild fruity yeast and earthy hops. Not overly boozy/tannic/drying on barrels. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly amazing offering, and world class style example. One of the smoothest beers for the ABV I've ever had.

Dark mahogany color, tan head, just a beautiful beer. The nose is dominated by the oak notes, and there’s some molasses notes, too.

The oak is also forward on the taste, but the molasses balances this perfectly. The mouthfeel is full and complementary to the overall experience this magnificent beer provides. Exceptionally well done by one of my favorite breweries.
