Look who is knocking out the 2017 March Madness beer reviews today. Originally picked this up in Summer 2014 when back at the source (in Kalamazoo) before heading over to Summerfest and the reunion.
Pours black, good light brown full 1" of head on it, tight bubbles. Impressive appearance for something older and barrel aged to produce that head with good retention. The aroma was nice, I'm a much bigger fan of the base beer than your average person, but laying on that bourbon barrel allows this beer to go to such great heights previously unobtainable. Its real nice, especially if you're not the type of mouth breather to say "robitussin" every time you drink a thicker viscosity beer with cherries.
Taste, pretty nice stuff, you get plenty of bourbon character without bringing the beer into some giant double digit alcohol gangbang. Its bourbon and cherries and not the super tart kind that make you think you ran into a pedio strain inadvertently. Sure they're tart in and of themselves, but in this package, you just get another varied layer.

Pours very dark with minimal kakhi head. Big chocolate and cherry aroma, coconut, light barrel presence. Very tart at first, full bodied and sweet. As the tartness fades the chocolate comes through; bourbon barrel seems to bring it all together. Rich and creamy, yet very tart. Overall I am glad it but wouldn't buy again. Couldn't finish it and had to dump.

Pours a dark brown with an average tan head with lots of lacing. Smell is cherry and molasses. Taste is the same with a bourbon taste at the end. Mouthfeel is light for a stout. Overall, one of the better beers from Bell's.
