Old Fashioned Holiday AleOld Fashioned Holiday Ale
Notes: Call us old fashioned, but we like to have special brews for special times of the year. We aged our Christmas Ale in bourbon barrels, then added dried cherry and orange peel. This winter warmer invokes classic flavors of the season and is perfect to sip by the fireplace, or put in the cellar for celebrations to come.

Originally brewed by our barrel specialist for our annual Roll Out the Barrel celebration.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, burgundy color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left very little lacing. It smelled of cherry, orange, toasted caramel and toffee. Sweet cherry & orange flavors with roasted caramel and toffee. Good bitterness.

Pours dark amber with a beige head. Nice aroma with caramel, cherries, orange peel, dark fruit, and light bourbon. Tastes like it smells. Sweet flavor, somewhat sticky in the mouth and on the lips. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. A very nice beer.

Pours a dark brown color with a minimal head that lasts quite a while. Aroma is sweet orange, spices and alcohol. Tastes of spices, oranges and a light touch of bourbon. Slightly bitter finish.

12oz bottle PKG 10/14/2020 (5 weeks ago) poured into a snifter at fridge temp 10.8% ABV. The beer pours bright dark amber with red/orange highlights and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island of tiny bubbles. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring bourbon barrel (especially vanilla), cherry, orange and malt sweetness. The taste is semisweet cherry & orange over rich, gently smokey, malt before a drying, oaky, barrel tannin focused finish. Minimal to mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. The ABV is well hidden with only a gentle warming on the tongue to indicate it's strength. Overall, very good. This is delivers as promised. Not a mimic of the drink, but a big ale that pays tribute.

Pours a deep tan with a quick head and minimal lacing.

The smell is orange, a hint of cherry, bourbon, and dark fruits.

The taste is dominated by the orange but bourbon and cherry are there also with dark fruits underneath and on the finish.

The mouthfeel is medium body and low/medium carbonation.

Overall, I love this beer. But I'm a huge fan of the old fashioned and I love extra orange with mine, so this is perfect for me.

A - pours a dark ruby and mahogany brown with a huge pillow of head that quickly reduces to a cap around the glass. Thin webbing of head clings to the glass for the entire session.

S - Heavy Bourbon on the nose, loads of citrus notes - orange peel, Plum, figs, caramel, malts, some spices.

T - Malt forward, bourbon, orange peel, fruity balanced by fruits and a warming alcohol on the back end. Some figs, raisin, and maybe bit of smokiness on the back end.

O - This is the Christmas Ale on steroids (bourbon) and definitely a sipper by the fire. I enjoyed this one, but would be curious to see how this one does in the cellar. Drinking it fresh leads me to believe this would do well to lay down for a year or two as it is a bit harsh and the bourbon and orange peel dominate the profile.

Really nice Christmas Ale from Bell's...

Hints of orange and cherries come through among a solid Scotch Ale base....the barrel is present but subdued...

Nice ABV for the holiday season...most higher ABV beers wouldn't pair well with food but I could see me blazing through some Christmas goodies while sipping away at this in front of the tree..

Tan head. Clear copper color.

Lots of orange and cherry. Bourbon and wet oak. Apple skins, caramel, toffee. Tastes like an old fashioned. Very well done. A delicious and fun festive ale.

A: Pours a dark brown color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap

S: Toasted malt, bourbon, maraschino cherries, orange peel, and oak

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with a mix of toasted malt, bourbon, and caramel. Picks up the cherries and orange peel as well as some drying oaky notes. Finishes with lingering caramel, bourbon, and oak

M: Medium-full bodied with low-moderate carbonation

O: A solid BBA scotch ale that does a nice job with balancing the bourbon and fruit with the base. Quite warming, making for a good sipper. Worth checking out

The wizards from Comstock, Michigan have done it again. Rather than add another entry to the offerings of old fashioned beers, Bell's creates one and makes it their own. More spiced up than the other old fashioned beers on the market, this one has its own personality.

To appreciate all of the flavors in this beer, drink it at room temp or slightly cooler. Right out of the fridge I couldn't taste much of anything except what seemed like young bourbon and mustiness. But as it warmed it became apparent that this is a Scotch ale that has a minor background taste of cherries and even less presence of orange, which is about what I'd want them to be. The bourbon never really reaches the point to cause you to think that you're drinking an Old Fashioned, but this is still a really good beer.

$25.99 for 4 pack of 12 oz. bottles. Nice chestnut brown, with thin white head. Aroma is definitely scotch ale, with touch of cherry and imitation orange/tangerine. Barrel is present, but not overwhelming.

More orange than cherry, flavors become more present as it’s warms. This beer really changes flavor with temperature. Silky smooth with fruity finish.

This is a nice once and awhile beer. Drink slow, let it warm and enjoy.

On draft at the eccentric cafe. A base scotch ale that's been done up as an old fashioned cocktail, heavy on the orange zest and bitters. Nails the cocktail more than any other old fashioned styled beer I've had.
