Very Good
Notes: When Winter comes, snowbirds travel south, but this batch of Oberon® headed to the barrel. Uberon is a bourbon barrel-aged version of our iconic American Wheat Ale. It's strong, spicy, warming… Uberon tastes like our classic American Wheat Ale with a shot of bourbon dropped into it. It’s the perfect beer for a special summer moment or something to store away for those winter nights when you’re missing Oberon.

Bronze color with a small dense head that settles to a thick cap. Strong aroma of bourbon and spicy wheat. Surprised by the flavor as I did not expect the caramel. Almost like a BBA amber ale but I do detect the spicy and honey wheat tones. Strong bourbon and a bit of vanilla from the barrel. Strong beer but the heat is not overpowering. Creamy mouthfeel goes along nicely with the flavors.

Looks clear and professional. Smells off putting of cheap vodka or grain alcohol laid over a hefeweizen. Taste falls flat. Initially you know its Oberon but real quick it taste like diluted Oberon, diluted in everclear that is. Feel is good. Nice and full, no complaints. Overall no thx bells.

Bottled on 8/26/21. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip.

Pours golden with nice clarity and transparency; white head that falls leaving nice retention and lacing. Nice color.

The aromas have a subtle blend of caramel and bourbon. Some vanilla, coconut and raisins as well. Hints of citrus. Some wheat. Malts are there.

The flavors follow the nose. More caramel, vanilla and coconut. Some orange and pineapple. Some dark fruits in the mix. Some oak and wood. The bourbon blends well and accentuates everything that's going on. The wheat does its thing. Solid malt backbone. Mild warmth in the finish.

Mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's sharp, fluffy, slick and smooth.

This is a nice barrel-aged beer. It's bold but subtle and balanced at the same time. The bourbon makes everything better instead of just simply dominating and diminishing everything else that's going on. There's an underrated complexity to this one. The craftsmanship is on point. Well done. I really like it.

12oz bottled 08/26/21 (about 6 weeks old) poured into a tulip glass at just above fridge temp 11.3% ABV per label. The beer pours mostly bright honey colored amber with off white. The head recedes to a pencil thin ring and an island of micro bubbles. The aroma is mild with notes of vanilla, oak and sweet malt. The taste is semisweet caramel, vanilla, oak, light bourbon barrel, with just a trace of the wheat in the finish. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good wheatwine or American strong ale. Not a American Pale Wheat Ale at all.

Thanks to Whyteboar for this one. Sent in NBS BIF #14.
Well from appearance it appears to be a filtered wheat. Amber tinged and golden in hue, fluffy white head. Solid fluff, good retention, and nice solid lacing.
Nose is whiskey laced wheat beer. Malt comes through underneath a firm, but not overpowering, malt note.
Flavor begins with the whiskey, but does make room for some malt notes, hints of banana, and sweet grain. Whiskey is most prevalent but I think that's what they were going for.
Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, slick, and fairly full for a wheat. Gently warm considering the ABV.
Overall, a nice wheat beer for the colder months.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle poured into a Founder's CBS snifter. Bottled out 8/26/21, making this just about 1 month old.

A: Pours a pretty golden and clear color. Nice, fluffy white head. Less hazy and cloudy than regular Oberon, obviously.

S: Tons of bourbon and vanilla on here. Almost Madagascar vanilla bean. Some oak. Almost no fruit or zest notes.

T: Oak and vanilla continue up front, followed by bourbon through the middle. Finish lacks the barrel for some reason and just feels like a boozy Oberon. This is really the only place I get the zest and orange from the base beer.

M: Medium-full, good carbonation. No clue how they got this to 11% with this base beer, but it's hidden well.

O: So I can't believe this was added to BA in 2008, a whole 2 years before I even got into craft beer. Apparently this has been and on and off treat for the Kalamazoo crowd, and only now makes distribution. Oberon has always been a tad overrated for me. But between this and the last couple of bottled variants, it seems like Bell's is realizing the same and injecting new life into the brand. Uberon comes in as the summer comes to a close, very fitting as this BA brew is a nice transition into the fall. I like this beer, it's very tasty, and a nice twist on the original. But as you can expect with a very thin and basic base beer, there's not too much going on here, even with the barrel. The style is odd too, as I have no real comparison point. The closest is maybe BA Solid Gold from Founder's, but that was a lager. The aging is nicely done, though. It's full, heavy, big ABV. It's a well-done beer, but just limited by it's base. It's basically a vanilla/oak/bourbon-spiked Oberon. Not a beer you have a ton of, but if you want to cap off a late summer pool day where you crushed a bunch of Oberon, this would be a great choice.

Recommendation: Certainly better than Oberon, the Uberon is a must-try barrel-aged beer.

Amber with thin white head that lingers. Nose is full of vanilla, milk chocolate? and bourbon. Taste follows the nose with vanilla up font followed by some bourbon barrel, cocoa, and wheat malt. Body is light to medium with light to medium carbonation. Ends warming, and slightly sweet. Overall an interesting beer, somewhere between a wheat wine and golden stout? Cant taste the 11%, but can feel the warmth. Not sure where the oberon is.

Digressing on the drinkability scale, but picking up the savory and spicy factor, Bell's Oberon foregoes its thirst quenching properties for more flavor, complexity and overall culinary charm.

Uberon emerges from its bourbon barrel nap with a light tarnish gold color and arrested in a cloudy haze. Glowing dimly, the ale crowns with a sparse, loose and lightly carbonated swath of foam. Whisky spice fills the nose with an undertow of fresh wheat bread, orchard fruit and exotic perfumy spice. Early flavors open with a wheaten sweetness that's remiss of pulled candy, fruit punch and sherbet.

As the ale unfolds on the middle palate, the sweetness slowly retreats and the flavors of fruit take command. Apple, lemon, papaya, pawpaw, apricot and pineapple all seem of the stewed, cobbler-like variety. Natural spices of white pepper, coriander, alligator pepper and clove are soothed with vanilla and caramel. Evading sweetness seems shockingly "circus peanut" candy like in the same way to many wheatwine. Bourbon spice trails with its own vanilla, toast, oak, coconut and caramel taste that adds both charm and fatigue to the late palate.

Medium full on the palate, the beer's sweet and lowly carbonated bulk lumbers on the finish, however its bright and fruity fare seems to keep the palate lighter with a playful fruit-like acidity. A mild prickle and a simmering warmth registers in a medium length afterglow of stewed fruit and exotic spice.

A - Clear dark gold color with thin dense lacing.

S - Light malt grain nose with a very slight amount of honey caramel sweetness

T - Light sweet malt with a slight sweet malt, alcohol, and some warming on the way down.

M - Big silky body that's dry on the back of the tongue.

O - A big "meh".

On Tap @ Blue Door Pours a light golden color with a fresh whispy head, looks great. Smell was wheat wood and whiskey all on the lighter side. Taste was mild whiskey with wheat and lemon citrus and malt . ABV well hidden on this with whiskey and barrel subtle well carbonated it tasted like a blonde barleywine , glad i got to try this from the tap, and would gladly try this one again.
