The sixth of 7 beers celebrating a literary classic, and one of our favorites, Leaves of Grass, by Walt Whitman. This is our take on a German-style Kellerbier. Rustic grains, including pilsen malt and maize, offer classic bready notes and a light haze. Herbal, noble hops and tangy rye malt add a light spiciness.

Gold in color with a heavy amount of sediment suspended in the body. It does say unfiltered on the bottle. There’s a fingernail of eggshell on top. I’m smelling sourdough bread and faint grassy hops. I’m tasting sourdough bread with a kiss of grassy hops. The mouth is smooth and creamy.

Handsome golden brew, just slightly hazed, with a persistent pile of foam in the Maredsous goblet. Aroma is very rich and grainy. Lovely sudsy mouthfeel, creamy and lush. Malty with a persistent touch of sweetness. Mellow cereal taste with hints of blueberries. Some hops lend the slightest biterness that is most welcome in the aftertaste.

Overall this is just tangy enough for the delicate malty sweetness. This is a great use of rye, with just a touch of that grainy spice. I had to look up my other reviews of Kellerbiers and this one seems to be my favorite so far. From the 12 oz bottle purchased on the West Coast.

Poured from the bottle into a Libbey style pilsner glass.

Deep brass gold body, maybe nearly brown on the edges and filled with lots of very fine linear carbonation. Head is a creamy eggshell topped white and making a nice presence. Egg white retention and whipped up froth of head, three fingers tall and some good presence. Real nice looking lager.

Aroma is deep and rich. Thick bread dough, nutty slightly, with a good chewy sweetness that begs to be bitten into. Slight hint of fruit tone which is surprising, and classic clean sensations and a touch of faint grass herbal hop. Very impressive so far.

Solid delicious palate. Sweet malt on first sip, bringing thick bread and white crusty flavors. Rich chewy texture and some light herbal and grass bitterness that makes a nice play. Finishes almost spicy with a popping hob angle of green grass and light bitterness for balance.

Good simple tasty keller.

Look: It is hazy gold with a white head. Head retention is low.

Smell: It has a spicy and herb aroma with a bit of yeast.

Taste: It is grainy sweet with spices up front and some herbal elements in the background. There is a bit of yeast that is very low.

Feel: It has a medium light body with a dry finish. The carbonation is on the higher side.

Overall, if has good flavors and it is refreshing, the type of drink for a hot summer day.

I haven't had all in this series, but this one is certainly unique...

If I had to sum up this lager in one word I would say, grassy. A very strong grassy note to the nose, as well as the mouth. The mouthfeel is crisp and astringent, with an overall rating I feel is a good number for this beer.

Raw, rustic and refined, the word is out on unfiltered beer. When fresh, it just tastes better. The Bell's Brewery gets their word out with an unfiltered "Kellerbier" to represent the words of Walt Whitman in lager form.

Pouring hazy, but reasonably cloudy light golden color, the frothy white cap rises with richer bread notes along with a light fruit profile, hints of spice and a nearly wheat ale perfume. The true pilsner profile shines on the early palate with fresh baked bready, a pleasantly starchy sweetness and a taste of cereal grains.

As the full flavor of pilsner unfolds on the middle palate, the light fruitiness of lemon and apple come from a slight sulfur profile and balance against the mild husken grit of rye. Together these seem a little like a witbier, trending herbal with lemongrass, lemon pepper, parsley and mint. A mild bitterness takes an edge off of the bready sweetness while adding a snappy taste to the late palate.

Medium bodied for lager, but fairly light overall, Salut au Monde finishes slightly minty, off-dry and quite refreshing. A medium short aftertaste of spice, grain and pepper resonate in brief echoes shortly afterwards.

I got a bottle of this beer off the single shelf from my local Giant Eagle store. It poured a slightly hazy golden with thin white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had wheat and grain notes . The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with grain presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

My 2nd offering from the Leaves of Grass series. (I previously had O Captain My Captain) Looking forward to searching for the other ones.

From the bottle, it pours a cloudy golden straw color as per the style. A large foamy head displays good retention.

The nose displays bready and cracker malts, with a touch of inviting toastiness. A lightly pungent earthy hops aromas displays notes of lemon and grass, and are complimented by yeasty spices; all very enticing .

The taste opens dryly with a touch of firm bitterness that announces its presence throughout. The malt flavors begin to develop with a full and rounded doughiness and with notes of cracker and lightly toasted bread with a moderate sweetness. This is balanced by earthy hops spices, notes of grass and lemon. Medium bodied and with a moderate carbonation that is right on par. The mouthfeel seamlessly blends the smoothness of the malts, the zest and spice of the hops and the crispness of the finish; the finish is also dry and with a refreshing clean bitterness.

Absolutely delightful! Easy to drink with a sublime balance and delicate flavors. Although I’m not particularly an expert on this specific style, I feel like it’s everything a lager should be.

T:. Fresh baked bread, a nice slightly bitter floral hop comes next and ends with a bit of sweet cereal malt, a very drinkable lager.

F:. Light and easy drinking.

O:. This is a very enjoyable lager for the summer

Pours a murky light gold. Smells is of pils malt with a hint of noble hops. Smooth and easy drinking, a good example of a pilsner with flavor whilst remaining drinkable.
