BEER INFO

Brewed by:

Michigan, United States

Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Substantial amounts of late-kettle hop additions and dry-hopping yields a heady blend of fruity aromas of pineapple, peach and citrus. Those aromas continue into a crisply bitter hop presence across the tongue, but the judicious use of toasted and caramel specialty malts prevents the hop intensity from overwhelming the palate.

Locally sourced Michigan honey creates a smooth, dry finish that pulls everything together.

The India Red Ale style is a variation on the IPA, but with more caramel and toasted malt character and a reddish hue.

Roundhouse was first brewed at our original brewery in downtown Kalamazoo in 2009.

Pours into a nonic a rich amber with a full one finger light tannish colored head atop.Juicy grapefruit stands out most to me in the nose with an underlying floral element as well, surprisingly not much of a malt presence to be found.Much dryer than expected on the palate as well, sharp citric notes as well some pine resin, the malt base is more nutty but with some caramel giving off mild sweetness, then more of a dry spicy kick to finish it out.I really like a hopped up red and Bell's delivers the goods here, great job!

Amber colored with an inch and a half of dense and creamy brown foam. I smell piney hops and caramel malt. The taste is surprisingly caramel to nutty in taste with a very deeply bitter piney hop finish. The mouth is very sticky and lightly chewy.

IRA on tap at Bells Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo.

Don't let the Beeradvocate classification or the appearance fool you. This is basically a red colored IPA. It may have marginally more malts than average, nonetheless, this is a hop forward beer with all of the hop aroma and flavor of a typical American IPA, or at least a hoppy APA. The quality is not typical but rather clearly above average in virtually all respects. Recommended!
