On tap at The Basin Pub in Bushnell's Basin, NY.

This one pours a clear light brown, with a small head, and no lacing.

This doesn't smell a whole lot like rye, but it does smell like sweet and funky Brett, with light cherry and red wine.

There's only the slightest wisp of rye taste here, the Brett yeast action drives the train here. It provides some significant cherry flavors, with light red wine, and a bit of the barnyard thing. It's simple, but very lovely.

This is light bodied, and pretty drinkable, with a good level of carbonation.

I wouldn't have expected something like this from Bell's- they don't do a ton of sours.

A unique twist on the rye ale.

From a growler visa Jungle Jim's Eastgate in a snifter.
This interesting little brew pours a nice tarnished bronze amber color with
a nice head of off white foam that showcases a thick ring, subtle light pool, and nice
light lacing. Nose of tart cherries, earthy funky yeast, white grapes, and subtle rye.
Flavors follow but exceed in profile with light pie cherry notes and spicy rye awash in
white grape must and earthy yeasty funk. Nice mouth feel; medium light body, low
carbonation, and a very dry finish.

Overall a surprise, though NOTHING I would expect from Bell's. The Flem sour thing
may be OK for less than a 1/4 of the fans out there, but it is overwhelming to the flavors
that should be presented. While this is interesting it is not of the Bell's quality I know.

Cheers

Served in a 25cl pour on tap, tulip glass. Dark, hazy orange in color with a ring of foam. The tap list only described it as a rye ale, and I was unaware of this particular ale until thia evening. So imagine my pleasant surprise when this beautiful smelling rye turned out to have just the perfect bit of tartness to it. Earthy, white grapes, funk, cider, and that wonderful rye base I was initially looking for when I ordered it. Recommended.

really surprised to see people liking this so much, i thought it was pretty lackluster, especially for a brewery as good as bells. a bretted rye ale that never really gets off the ground for me. it has a terrible aroma of old cheese and socks and sweat and stinky wild yeast, like a dregs starter in apple juice or something, more fitting in a homebrewers garage than in a beer from bells. its amateur and flawed, and if it werent for a nice heaping dose of fresh rye malt coming through, it would be unappealing altogether. the flavor is fine until the finish, the rye is simple but good and robust in here, there are some subtle fruit notes from the wild aspects, white grape and apple are most forward, and there is a little funk thats way better than it smells. the finish though is the taste manifestation of the off smell i got, its all after the swallow, stale cereal and old yeast flavor on the tongue, lasts forever and is hard to get to go away. i couldnt believe how off putting it was on the first sip, so i took another sip to confirm and that was my last taste of this one. the first beer i have encountered in a long time i couldnt drink. the rye saves it a little bit, and i like seeing bells push in this wild ale direction, but this is way off from the quality we are accustomed to from them! avoid.
