Style: American Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Bell's Quinannan Falls Lager

Literally born in a dream: Larry Bell, president and founder of Bell’s Brewery, dreamt that he was at the mystically hidden retreat of Quinannan Falls, somewhere in the boreal north.

Neither Quinannan Falls nor the beer actually existed outside his imagination, but he remembered enough about it to sketch a recipe and label, which was put into full form by Michigan artist Kathleen Kalinowski, the following morning.

The end result is a dry-hopped lager that possesses a crisp, dry bitterness you would expect from a German pilsner, but the use of highly aromatic Simcoe hops from the Pacific Northwest, evoke the fragrant pine forests that inspired this beer.

I do not many beers these days, but this one deserves it.

This is an imperial pils. The water profile and bitterness is perfect. That combination makes this beer extremely drinkable.

It has the drinkablity of a premium north german pils, but then add the INSANE flavor added from the simcoe dry hopping and you have a absolutely perfect marriage between old school and new school

This beer is great as is, but if Bells could somehow drop this by a percent, they could easily replace Lager of the Lakes. A decent check pils, but the execution of QF is simply masterful. I even as is, I would always have some of this in the fridge, I just wouldn't be able to drink it as often

Well done Bells

From a can, this brew is a lightly hazy straw color with a puffy, tall, white head. The aroma is spicy and musty. with a little malt underneath. Hoppy taste...Earthy, bitter, hoppy, and interesting. Full in body. Interesting and solid.

Poured from can dated 6/8/17 into pint glass, well within stated 3mo shelf life.

L: Pale green with high clarity. Foamy white head survives the glass and leaves significant lacing. Most decisive characteristic of this beer.
S: Pine and lemongrass. Not as aromatic as expected from dry hopping. Yeasty.
T: Dry, tart, pale malt and pine, with interesting lemony sourness.
MF: Light, crisp, refreshing.
O: Very interesting medley of pale ale and lager. Well executed for the style and worth trying. Ultimately, I'll probably stick with a pale ale or lager.

Pours a c;lear golden color with a tight, white head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of pale malt and some grass.

Tastes of the grassy hops layered over a soft malt base. Hops lead off with notes of lemon and grass. This gives way to pale, doughy malts along with some grainy sweetness. Hops become more floral towards the end. Finishes fairly clean with a bit of lingering grains.

Mouthfeel is medium-light with a crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a solid lager.

I prefer the lighter side of Bell's, so before I tried this I was afraid it was going to be a gimmicky hop bomb. That isn't the case at all. This is first and foremost, and nothing but, a lager, and it stays true to the style.

It opens very pale and pretty thin head. You literally could read the computer screen through it. The aroma is nice and sweet, slightly yeasty, but not very pronounced. I would have liked a big finishing hops on this.

It does taste somewhat more bitter than most of this style, all from the benefit of judicious amounts of hops.

Highly recommended for a dry, bitter lager experience.

L - Bright yellow with clarity, 2 fingers of head and tons of lacing left all over the brew and the glass

S - Subtle citrus notes, piny, lemon,

T - Great balance between hoppy and malty.

F - Well carbonated, light body - sizzles a bit

O - Extremely refreshing, nice hoppy undertone - well balanced and enjoyable. Loving the cans too.
