Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Bell's Quinannan Falls Lager

Literally born in a dream: Larry Bell, president and founder of Bell’s Brewery, dreamt that he was at the mystically hidden retreat of Quinannan Falls, somewhere in the boreal north.

Neither Quinannan Falls nor the beer actually existed outside his imagination, but he remembered enough about it to sketch a recipe and label, which was put into full form by Michigan artist Kathleen Kalinowski, the following morning.

The end result is a dry-hopped lager that possesses a crisp, dry bitterness you would expect from a German pilsner, but the use of highly aromatic Simcoe hops from the Pacific Northwest, evoke the fragrant pine forests that inspired this beer.

12 oz can poured into snifter

IPLs are kind of weird. I've been thinking about them since I had one at Ballast Point tap room ~8 yrs ago. Bell's Special Lager does not have much in common with that Ballast Point beer, but it is certainly delicious. Especially the second and third one. Delicious hop gold with a crisp finish. Could drink a billion.

12 oz can poured into a shaker.

Light straw. Moderate carbonation. Excellent clarity. 1 finger of loose white head.

Grapefruit, pine, tangerine, cracker, candy sugar, and lemon.

Bread, cracker, and candy sugar maltiness. Grapefruit, pine, candied lemon, and tangerine zest.

Medium-light bodied, crisp, clean, semi-dry, and lightly bitter.

Light and refreshing. The hops are pretty balanced.

Pours a very bright yellow clear with a 1/2 inch of frothy head. Smells rather tame more lager tones of grain and corn with just a pinch of bittering hops. Clean taste of grain, mild malt sweetness and a lingering bitterness on finish which caught me off guard since it didn't smell that hoppy. Almost acidic bitterness. Body is light and crisp with a smooth taste.

Overall I like this a bit more than most India pale lagers but I just can't seem to love the style. This one was fairly good but I think the extreme bitterness kind of ruined it.

wonderfully executed - this is exactly what they said it would be.

bright, clear yellow beer with a pristine, white head that fades to some mild lacing. pine and earth really come forward on this one in the nose with a touch of unripe pineapple. taste leans more to the pine up front and pineapple at the end. bitterness is noticeable at the end, but not overwhelming.

mouth is fully carbonated, finishing a bit viscous.

great drinkability. great beer.

12 oz can poured into a nonic pint glass canned on 6/8

A: bright yellow gold with superb clarity. Head is a small creamy white that settles to a haze.

S: light pineapple with some herbal qualities then some light corn and a little sweet malts.

T: lots of light fruits, pineapple, grapefruit rind lots of citrus then some bitterness lights hints of sourdough breads.

M: nice carbonation with a rich body something that has a nice cling and feel.

O: this was drank at almost room temperature and what really shines to me about these beers is the great body. Yet I would still say it is easy drinking with a nice clean feel.

from a can poured rough into a pint glass. labeling on bottom is smudged but all I can read is 18466 pkgd 12:32 there are numbers below it but are blurry.

Appearance- it's a severely clear yellow piss color. super frothy white head that leaves decent lacing. for the style it's pretty solid.

Aroma- biscuit and slight cracked pepper. get a tiny bit of citrus but also get a weird melon scent. not bad just weird. get some yeasty notes as well.

Flavor- light bread with the yeasty action. do get a slight bitterness that washes the b.s. bland lager taste away which invites some citrusy and grassy notes. pretty good. abv is well hidden.

Mouthfeel- the typical crisp lager feel. light/medium bodied. good carbonation. for the style it's great.

Drinkability- I've been looking to grab another six of this stuff but it must of been really limited this year. oh well. good but not going out of my way to track down.

Overall- it hits the marks for the lager style but labeled an india style pale lager I think the hops need to bring more to the table on this one. the bitterness is the savior in the beer. without it would be just another good pale lager with nothing outstanding or different than other good pale lagers (victory prima pils comes to mind). bitterness is spot on but I would like to see just a tiny but more hop flavor come through and this would be a home run.

Look: It pours straw and is very clear. It has a white head that has moderate head retention.

Smell: It has a balance in the aroma of grain and herbs. There are background notes of bread and earthly elements.

Taste: It has flavors of grain, bread, herbs, and some earthen elements. The balance between the malt and hops is nearly even. It is very clean overall.

Feel: It has a moderate body with a dry finish.

Overall, it is a well balanced lager that is clean and crisp with a dry finish.

I do not many beers these days, but this one deserves it.

This is an imperial pils. The water profile and bitterness is perfect. That combination makes this beer extremely drinkable.

It has the drinkablity of a premium north german pils, but then add the INSANE flavor added from the simcoe dry hopping and you have a absolutely perfect marriage between old school and new school

This beer is great as is, but if Bells could somehow drop this by a percent, they could easily replace Lager of the Lakes. A decent check pils, but the execution of QF is simply masterful. I even as is, I would always have some of this in the fridge, I just wouldn't be able to drink it as often

Well done Bells

From a can, this brew is a lightly hazy straw color with a puffy, tall, white head. The aroma is spicy and musty. with a little malt underneath. Hoppy taste...Earthy, bitter, hoppy, and interesting. Full in body. Interesting and solid.
