Style: American Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Bell's Quinannan Falls Lager

Literally born in a dream: Larry Bell, president and founder of Bell’s Brewery, dreamt that he was at the mystically hidden retreat of Quinannan Falls, somewhere in the boreal north.

Neither Quinannan Falls nor the beer actually existed outside his imagination, but he remembered enough about it to sketch a recipe and label, which was put into full form by Michigan artist Kathleen Kalinowski, the following morning.

The end result is a dry-hopped lager that possesses a crisp, dry bitterness you would expect from a German pilsner, but the use of highly aromatic Simcoe hops from the Pacific Northwest, evoke the fragrant pine forests that inspired this beer.

12 oz can. Pours clear golden, medium white head, good lacing. Aroma is grassy, grain, pine, hints of citrus. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, grainy start, citrus grass and pine middle, and lingering honey on the finish.

Pale gold with fluffy white head.

Light grain flavor, with a crisp finish. Pine resin and citrus peel upfront, and it is an interesting approach to to the lager category. A touch of sulfur in the finish.

Very enjoyable and very American in its appeal, unlike your standard lager or pilsner out to mimic, at least stylistically, classic European variations of bottom fermentation. I do get a hint of alcohol, while not entirely unpleasant, it is a bit unexpected. Again, very tasty and pleasurable to drink.

For a hoppy lager, surprisingly good.

Special is the word. Best AAL ever. Light in color, foamy white head, hoppy bouquet, big hop flavor, not too bitter. Out of a can, this is what craft is all about.

Picked up a can from Craft Beer Hop Stop in late July for $1.83. Canned on 6/16/16.

Beer poured a straw color with a beautiful white head that has some great hang time.

Nose is bready and has notes of pine.

Taste is bready and crackery up front combining beautifully with a crisp piney hop profile.

Feel is crisp and clean, refreshing.

Overall an excellent beer that I would consider doing a 6 pack of in the future. If you can find it refrigerated definitely pick it up.

12 Fluid Ounce Can
Reviewed on September 24th, 2016
Served in a Pint Glass

Eyes
Poured a straw colored body. Plenty of bubbles racing throughout. Very generous sized bright white head quickly collapsed and left tons of sticky lacing.

Nose
Herbal / grassy hops. Faint notes of grainy malts.

Mouth
Herbal hops hit the tongue first. Pine and lemongrass. Fruitier tones of lemon peel and light citrus developed over time. Very subtle malt presence. Touch of grain and cracker.

Mouthfeel
Light-bodied. Moderate/heavy carbonation.

Notes
Nice hoppy lager. Crisp and dangerously drinkable.

12 fl. oz. can
Served in a Michigan Wolverines pint glass

This beer pours straw colored with a slight haze. It is topped with two inches of white head that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is pine, light citrus and earthy.

The taste is citrus and plenty of pine with a bitter finish.

Medium to moderate mouthfeel

This is a very tasty lager. I guess this would be in the IPL category. It is an easy drinker, too.

-spiegelau ipa glass. Canned 06.16.16. Consumed 09.14.16.

A: Light orange good clarity reveals a strong sense of micro-effervesce within. A bright white head tops things off at 0.5 inches, with a frothy texture and was well lasting. Nice full band lacing.

S: Forrest like aroma, fresh pine trees, evergreens, leaves, hay and dried grains. Some dried orange peel, and dried lemon peel.

T: Dried pine, hoppy, nicely bitter with some dried orange peel and lemon. Hay, dry flowery bitterness on the trail. Some citrusy pine.

M: Crisp, sharp and tingly. Lager like, very good to style, turns creamy and frothy on the hold.

O: A nice addition of hops, dry, crisp lager grain like backing with the rate amount of balance. Lingering dry bitterness finish. Could drink multiples of this. Earthy, almost fall like, ocktoberfest feel. Giving lagers respect. Outstanding try per style.

Nice looking but not much for smell. I not a huge lager fan but decided to give this a try. Was pleasantly. Diffinately the best larger I have had. Very flavorful and refreshing. Will be visiting this one again soon
