Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Once a year we scour the climbing vines of the local hopyards for the perfect hops to brew our Harvest Ale. Using only Michigan-grown hops, this amber-colored brew finds the delicate balance between hops and malt. It offers a full and robust flavor, yet still manages to be light on the tongue.

Poured into a pint glass. Dark orange/amber color with a nice thick foam. Slowly melts to a thick film with great lacing all the way down. Smell is very subtle malt, sweet hops and floral. Taste is malty with a nice hop finish, almost juicy. Well balanced with citrus and spruce. Nothing overwhelming. Carbonation is mild and mouthfeel is a little heavier than expected. Overall a great beer.

Bottle 745 of 1041; Chalkboard in the Eccentric Cafe lists the draft version at 5.7% abv. I assume this is the same batch.

A - Pours a nice reddish orange with one and a half fingers of dense tan head. Head has great retention and coats the glass i lacing.

S - Aroma is quite floral, with some sweet citrus, herbal notes, some biscuit and toasted malts and a hint of spiciness.

T - Initial sweet citrus yields to a lightly resinous hop bitterness. Nice combination of malts and hops. Finish is dry hop bitterness, slightly herbal. Very well balanced and enjoyable taste.

M - Medium mouthfeel that is very creamy. A bit of dry lingering bitterness. Just enough carbonation, but definitely on the low side.

O - Very enjoyable, well-balanced APA. Would love to see this become an annual release in bottles.

2012 edition, received in May drunk in June. Expecting big hops, green and fresh. Rather subdued, pale ale describes it. Very good drinkability. Lighter coloured body, good retaned head. Hop aromas there and good, minty. Medium mouthfeel.Bottle from steven.

Dark amber brown with moderate carbonation, topped with a finger of off white head.

Smells of malts and toffee.

Tastes of malt, toffee, dough bomb, pine and citrus orange hops.

Medium body, slightly syrupy, with moderate carbonation.

Drank at Bells Brewery in Kalamazoo, MI, Oct 3rd, 2016. Enjoyed with Cameron, and the Brisket Dip off the menu.

On tap at Bell's on April 27, 2012. Served in a pint glass. Reviewed from notes. Pours a nice golden color that is quite clear with a good white head and a bit of foam. The nose carries a bit of spice and quite a bit of European hops. This smells like an IPA with all European hops. Spice, earth, and herbal qualities coming through. The flavor is very similar. Over-the-top spicy in some ways. I think this would have been better scaled back given the delicacy of some of the hops that seem to be involved. Body is light-medium with a dry bitterness through the finish. Not a huge fan, unfortunately.
