Amber Ale deftly balances a mixture of toasted grain & light caramel notes with a range of floral, citrus and herbal hop notes, capped by a clean bitterness. From the tap in a standard pint glass, has a rich copper color with one finger of white foam that faded to a thin layer but never went away. A nice subtle malt smell and tiny bitterness in the taste. Some carbonation present with just a little touch of pine. Medium mouth feel and nice lace left on the glass. This is a very good beer.

12oz bottle, dated 7.24.17, poured into a Bell's tulip glass. Enjoyed on 9.28.17, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a nice amber color, opaque with some faint clarity and a two finger tall off white head that has very good retention and yields nice sticky lace. The aroma is nice, soft amber malts, lightly sweet with a bit of caramel and some light piney and citrusy hops. The flavors are good, super smooth amber grains, lightly sweet, a touch of nuttiness, bready with some caramel and a bit of earthy hops, pine, grapefruit peel, grassy with a crisp finish. The mouthfeel is good, sturdy medium body, coating and creamy with some lively carbonation and an easy soft finish.

Verdict: A great amber ale from Bell's. Firing on all cylinders for the style and very well balanced. I think this might be the freshest bottle I've tried to date, and it's really a great beer. Malty for sure, but at the the moderate 5.8% ABV, it's approachable and really refreshing.

WONDERFUL AMERICAN RED AMBER ALE IF THAT IS YOUR THING.

LIGHT ENOUGH THAT MY WIFE ENJOYED ONE WITH ME.

Pours a dark hazy amber color with very little head or lacing. Aroma has subtle floral and citrus hints, the taste follows the nose with subtle floral and citrus flavors. A decent beer.

Look: It pours amber with a white head. Head retention is moderately low.

Smell: It has aromas of malty sweetness with caramel. It also has a bread crust quality to it. There is light apple in the background.

Taste: The flavors are sweet with bread crusts and caramel. There is also some light apple and light herbal.

Feel: It has a moderate body and light bitterness.

Overall, this is very easy drinking and a balance towards the malts.

This is WAY underrated as a "very good". In aligning with another rating I had seen..it does remind me of what is called a bitter... when you order it at a pub in the UK. They "pull" it up by pumping the handle at the bar and it comes up through pipes/tubes connected to the keg/barrels from the cellar. I went there way before great American craft breweries began the revolution here, so the brew in the UK was even more special back then.

Wow! I'm a huge fan of English bitters such as John Smith's and Burton Ale. This Amber Ale takes me right back to pubs in Leeds or Newcastle! Just superior and rare to find in a US brewer.
