Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Amber Ale deftly balances a mixture of toasted grain & light caramel notes with a range of floral, citrus and herbal hop notes, capped by a clean bitterness. This balance of flavors makes Amber Ale quite versatile as a food pairing option, not to mention being rather tasty in its own right. Whether serving as a jumping point to other styles or as a familiar standby, Amber Ale is central to the Bell’s portfolio.

Wow i'm surprised this beer is rated so low. I loved it, one of the best amber ales I've ever had...maybe even the best. I'll be buying it again next time I see it.

Beautiful beer with a slightly metalic and carbonated taste. Good heft to the flavor but wanted more. Will drink again to see if this review changes

Got this one as part of a mixed six-pack at Fairway...heard good things about this Michigan brew and was not disappointed...also got the Oberon and liked this one better...nice crisp clean taste with pleasant hoppy notes...will look for this one again.

It has the toasty caramely molasses flavors of a sweet beer without being sweet... rather dry in fact, straight bitterness with nothing "bright" about the hops, just unnecessary bitterness. Some earthy and soapy qualities in there. Definitely an amalgam of citrus fruit, some grass and spice, some metal as well. But bitterness is cranked too high for an amber.

A: slight haze; bronze in color; 2 finger light khaki head that receded to a wispy cap; nice lacing;

S; nutty with sweet malt behind it;

T: toasted grain, nutty, a little floral; finish is malty with mild bitterness;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish that continues to dry out into the aftertaste;

O: very nicely balanced amber - not too sweet;

Light amber in color with a bit of light sediment suspended throughout the body. There's a fingernail of beige resting on top. The aroma is of caramel, a hint of citrus, and faint grassy hops play a background note. The flavor is mostly caramel and light marzipan along with just a hint of grassy hops at the back of the palate. The mouth is light and delicate.

Pours a dark apricot with a two finger creamy head. Some smoke on the nose but drowned out by the toasted grains and lightly toasted barley. Not big on hops. Taste is caramel with toasted bread. Some herbal/citrus hops. Nicely balanced with good carbonation. Soft medium mouthfeel. Dry finish. Smooth and very drinkable. Nice smooth brew but not spectacular. It will however be on my list of restaurant beers. Be great at a fish fry.
