Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The beer that helped build our brewery; Bell’s Amber Ale features both toasted and sweet caramel notes from carefully selected malts, balanced with herbal and citrus hop aromas. Capped by a clean bitterness, it’s incredibly versatile with food, but very tasty on its own.

Tasty earthy beer that gives fat tire a run for it's money.

Finally, enjoying this classic, love the style and this example, since RedTail Ale was my first craft.
a) Color along would get this to 4, and the off white head and lace lift it to 4.25.
s) Ample hops, grapefruit, floral, outweighed by caramel malts, brown sugar, toffee.
t) As expected the caramel malts, without being too sweet, balance with more subtle herbal, floral, earthy hops. Some grapefruit. Really excellent food beer profile.
f) It's medium body and mid carbonation, with a nice clean finish that balances.
As one wrote: "great with or after fish / shellfish".
o) Full flavored, special, classic.

Overall: One of the more full flavored amber ales and very drinkable.

Wonderful amber color, thin and bubbly tan head. A very vibrant, yet reserved look to it. Not much on the nose, I think due to this being an older bottle. What remains is a mild hoppy smell, with a solid amount of grain with it. This beer tastes very good. I'd like to leave it at that but the flavors here bring so much to the table that I would be remiss not to draw them out individually. The primary flavors here come from an impeccable balance of herbaceous and earthy hops with both bright yellow grain and a sweet corny flavor characteristic of many classic American lagers. This, unlike many with this source of flavor (whatever it is), does not overwhelm. The aftertaste is primarily roasty and malty, rounding out the whole tasting experience quite nicely. I find this beer's taste to be a perfect exercise in both balance and diversity of flavor. Well done to the brewing team in this regard. I will not be tired of this beer by the end of its 6 pack and will likely go back for another soon. One last note: the feel of the beer is impressive, but has an almost oily quality. Still, it feels like a true mouthful of beer, which I've gotta give a shout out to.

I'm all hopped out! Lately I've drunk so many IPAs that my tongue
looks like HOPS. So I thought I'd try an amber ale from one
of my favorite breweries; Bell's Amber Ale didn't disappoint,
very refreshing. Clean taste with a very nice finish. Couples well
with food.

On tap at Das Biergarten. Clear amber body. Smells of caramel and bready malts with some floral hops. Tastes of more bready and toasty malts. Faint caramel malt lends a bit of sweetness. Back end is toasty with a honey floral flavor and hop bitterness. Medium body. Solid all around.
