Michigan, United States

Notes / Commercial Description:
Amber Ale deftly balances a mixture of toasted grain & light caramel notes with a range of floral, citrus and herbal hop notes, capped by a clean bitterness. This balance of flavors makes Amber Ale quite versatile as a food pairing option, not to mention being rather tasty in its own right. Whether serving as a jumping point to other styles or as a familiar standby, Amber Ale is central to the Bell’s portfolio.

Bell's Brewery, Inc. "Bell's Amber Ale"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "PKG 05/03/2017..." and sampled on 08/07/2017
$2 @ Giant, Havertown, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Beautiful looking glass of beer. The head retention is magnificent, holding a two-finger thick cap of off-white froth for more than several minutes. The body is a hazy copper with golden highlights at the base of the glass. The aroma displays gently citrusy notes over a toasted malt base, and the flavor follows with some added caramel and light brown sugar. A modest bitterness helps to balance it, and it finishes toasty with residual citrusy notes lingering. Looking back, there's still a solid surface covering, and sheets of tattered lacing rise along the glass two or three inches above the surface. There's nothing fascinating about it, but the interplay of citrus and toast is nice, and it's just a solid, very drinkable beer that would really fit almost any situation.

DATE REVIEWED: August 14, 2014... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... OCCASION: more Shark Week...APPEARANCE: orange bron amber body; two-finger, creamy off-white head; slowly effervescent and rather hazy; a decent-looking pint; nice, thick lacing... AROMA: floral hops mesh with caramel malts; sweet confectioners’ sugar is front and center ... PALATE: medium-bodied, chewy and active--a pub draft, in its consistency... TASTE: strong malty presence; mellow hops roll off the teeth and take a backseat to the nutty, somewhat buttery aftertaste--a confident offering...OVERALL:a pint for conversing over or eating pubfare with--a sessionable beer that sits well in the Bell’s sampler case...
