On-tap at Churchkey in DC, served in a snifter.

A- Pours black and viscous with a finger of mocha head, nice retention and thick lacing.

S- Very sweet, fruity aroma, lots of figs, prunes, molasses and caramel, as well as notes of bourbon, oak, maybe some anise and vanilla.

T- Similar to the aroma, lots of dark fruit, molasses and caramel, but also a more pronounced roasty, bready malt, accents of bourbon, oak, vanilla, and a mild anise (which is done just right because when anise is any stronger than this is quickly becomes horrible) round things out, but the sweet, sugary fruitiness is the most prominent.

M- Full-bodied, low carbonation with a sticky feel, moderate boozy warmth.

O- A very delicious beer, great complexity and flavor, I had this on tap and with a smaller (~8 oz pour) was happy with it, the flavors are very rich so if you have a big bottle definitely share with friends. Well worth seeking out.

Served in a snifter at Churchkey.

Pours a dark mahogany color with hardly any head. The smell is delightful. Reminds me of sweet cherries and almond extract. Also getting vanilla and some caramel. The taste doesn't disappoint. The beer is very sweet. Full of caramel, vanilla, and lots of dark fruit. The cherries note is there, but it is less prevalent than in the nose. The alcohol level is on the high side and it's a bit hot. The beer feels a bit syrupy with more tingly carbonation than I expected given the lack of head. The beer sticks to your mouth long after the sip is done.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. Small head with low retention. Clear, oily, sticky lacing. Dark, dark, ruby in color, borderline black. Aroma includes some roasted malt, some alcohol, molasses, port and some beautiful bourbon. Mouthfeel is extremely thick and viscous, tongue and mouth coating. Taste includes molasses, some prune, some bourbon, touch of vanilla and brown sugar. The alcohol is well hidden. This beer deserves all of the hype that it has received to this point and will certainly receive in the future. God damn.
