Too much hop in this one for me, but then again, this is a style I'm not a huge fan of; this is Bell's first loser in my book after three marvelous offerings (Oberon, Two Hearted Ale, and Mercury, respectively).

A fine pale ale. Not too much of anything. Pretty Midwestern if you ask me.

Look: Dark yellow to orange in color. Pours with one finger of head which fades.

Smell: The smell seems very weak. It's very difficult to pick up much other than maltiness.

Taste: Very crisp and citrus like. A bit of malty goodness.

Feel: Refreshing. Nice carbonation and thirst quenching.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #74 (Mar 2013):

Brewed with barley from their own farm, it has a noticeable terroir of sorts—a trend that we hope sticks, as it’s adding dimension to the beer world. Balance and dryness amp up the drinkability to 10. The Earth doesn’t shake, but we’d make this a mainstay in our beer fridge. You can’t get much more American than this.

STYLE: American Pale Ale
ABV: 5.2%
AVAILABILITY: Year-round

LOOK: Hazed pale amber, amazing lacing

SMELL: Orange pith, Asian pears, cracker graininess, mineral, floral, grassy

TASTE: Crispness pops; smooth, grainy, medium body, ample hop bitterness, herbal, dried hay, nutty, dried apricots, peppercorn, very dry finish

a single file of "bubbly" easing from the floor of my glass....
smells like 'adjunct and cheap crap.....
taste is.... yeah, adjunct and cheap crap.... especially while tasting with this Pappy burnt onto my tongue. not great. not even really good..... Bell's just came to SOCAL and, okay, it's alright. but this one is not great by any yardstick.... but I supoose it is "okay"...

Packaged 1/28/15.

Pours a murky orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, earth, and grass aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, grass, earth, and spicy hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of earth and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has a lot of grain characteristics that stand out more than the hop qualities to me.

Serving type: bottle.

Kinda reminds me of a Heinekin. Skunky sort of. More lager than pale ale maybe. Not sure to tell lyou the truth... Bottled Jan. 16th so not old per se. Reminds me of a farmhouse beer a bit as well.

This is an ok beer...nothing to rave about. Probably would be better as a mid summer beer than mid winter. It poured clear gold with thin white head and not much lace. The scent was more grainy with tinge of citrus. Mouthfeel is light and fizzy. Overall...ok
