Poured into a St. Feuillien goblet. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a fine, two finger white head with great retention and lots of lacing. Classic Belgian pale aroma of light fruit, clove, Belgian yeast and bready malt, slightly spicy. Starts with semi-sweet light fruit, bready malt, clove, coriander and a hint of rye spiciness. Quickly transitions to a dryer, more peppery and hoppy finish. The rye, hops and Belgian spices combine to a dry bitter finish that is almost reminiscent of saisons. Medium bodied with peppery active carbonation. An interesting hopped up take on a strong pale. Alcohol is well covered, although this is definitely still warming. The flavors are a bit subdued, as are the herbal hop flavors, but this is an older bottle (I think this was made in 2010), so that is expected. It has held up well and the flavor transition is interesting. Wish I could have tried it with fresh Green Flash hops, but this ist still enjoyable as is. There seem to be bottles still hanging around, and it is worth trying even at this late date. Nice collaboration between a hoppy American brewer and top notch Belgian brewery.

The pour is Duvel-esque with a dark golden straw color. Very clear with almost no haze. On top of the golden straw color is a bright white head. Right at a finger thick, it's a brilliant white ocean of tiny, tiny little bubbles. Retention is long and the lacing is attractive.

They nailed the scent, totally Belgian with tart fruit, light grapes and green apple, with white pepper from the yeast. Really classic. There's a savory hop character as well.

I'd prefer a bit more dark fruits in the flavor, but this isn't it. Taste copies the scent with peppery yeast dominating. The rye malt shines through, keeping with the spicy theme. The earthy, savory hop presence begins in the finish.

Again, I was looking for a bit more dark fruits, but this was crisp and dry, well carbonated, somewhat earthy. Balanced with malts, yeast and hops being equally accounted for. Little sweetness, moderate bitterness, slight twang, and a bit of alcohol and pepper heat in the finish.

This was pretty easy to drink despite what I was expecting. A good beer by Green Flash, but pretty obvious there was some Belgian expertise involved.
