Rare to see a "Grand Cru" being dubbed so outside of the stronger, darker Belgian Ale but it goes to show the confidence that St. Feuillien brewers have with this ale of dainty finesse and deceptive strength.

The strong golden ale pours like champagne- mildly hazed within a golden and straw tinted cocoon. And like the bubbly wine, a fruity and spicy conversation really opens up the nose. Grape, apple orange and lemon are counter to pepper and vinous character. But the supple sweetness lays on the tongue like powdered sugar and soft cotton candy.

Given a big boost with expressive carbonation the middle palate explodes off the tongue, carrying with it the whimsy of orange blossom, honeysuckle and light honey. Its faintest malt body is softly creamy and easily torn apart by its carbonic bite.

What's left in its wake is a white pepper bite with the tangy acidity of chardonnay, cider and citrus. A pleasantly bitter hop presence seems of botanical herb as the beer finishes with playful warmth and a fruity undertow. The ale is simply deceptively strong and impeccably balanced.

a well done Belgian pale, I like that something called grand cru isn't a dark one for once, this is a nice change of pace. massively bubbly blonde beer fizzes out when I pop the cap, and an aroma of Belgian yeast and light grain and booze follows. its got a great prickle on the tongue, very refreshing for a beer so strong. the alcohol can be smelled, but isn't tasted at all, it comes across much lighter than it is. the grain is real basic here, probably primarily Belgian pils, its got that delicate slightly stale thing going on. some hop balance I the finish, slightly floral with the yeast, which also seems mild for something dubbed a grand cru. very drinkable beer at this strength, not as distinct as I had hoped it would be, but very well made and on par with the other stuff these guys make in terms of overall quality. nice beer all up.
