Notes: This beer has a white, smooth and very compact head. Its pale amber colour is very characteristic revealing a distinctive maltiness. It has a rich aroma with a unique combination of aromatic hops, spices and the typical bouquet of fermentation – very fruity. Secondary fermentation in the bottle gives it a unique aroma due to the presence of yeast. St-Feuillien Triple has a very strong and exceptionally lingering taste thanks to its density and its long storage period. Whether served as a refreshing aperitif in summer or savoured during the winter months, the Triple is a connoisseur’s beer par excellence.

St. Feuillien Triple, like all great examples in this style, has a dense but still glowing golden complexion and can be distinguished by its giant marshmallow-like head and the pearly lace it produces. That big white cushion never fades, not even as the liquid beneath it dissipates. It's a highly regal looking beer, especially when poured into its proper chalice.

Spice, fruit, sweetness, hops and grain - you name it, this style has it all. This particular example is especially rich in juicy mandarin orange and tropical papaya notes, zesty fresh-grated ginger and honey-graham biscuits, though a whole slew of other flavours including white peppercorn, banana, coriander, cut grass, vanilla, roses, and baked cereal grains are noted too.

The taste can't possibly offer much more than what the aroma already has, but the hearty, wholesome extent of the malt is perhaps better appreciated on the palate. The crisp, lightly honeyed wholewheat flavour is contrasted against a fairly perceptible bitterness, cracked coriander and grated ginger, as well as a variety of temperate and tropical climate fruits.

It's really worth repeating just how exceptionally harmonious a balance this brewer strikes between the spicy, fruity, grainy and herbal elements. Not to mention how they fade the 8.5% so seamlessly into the whole thing! Such high carbonation probably helps ease in the alcohol, though thankfully doesn't erase that soft, warming sensation felt on the finish.

I recently tasted St. Feuillien Triple side-by-side with Westmalle, Karmeliet and Gouden Carolus - not only three of the style's highest rated (and original archetype!) but also my all-time personal favourites. Not only did it hold its own but, the case could easily be made, was every bit as good as the others, possibly even better. I put this one squarely up there with the best.

11.2oz bottle poured into a St. Feuillien chalice. Bottle stamp: L5073 10:32 02/07/2013.

Appearance: Slow pour to leave the sediment behind gave a hazy translucent gold-orange. Thin persistent white head with fine strands of lacing noted.

Smell: Strong fruity ester aroma along with a nice yeasty/bready aroma.

Taste: Fruity esters, yeast, bready malt, some phenol, and a nice noble hop leafy finish.

Mouthfeel: Initial strong carbonation with a dry finish gave way to an light mouthfeel that is still dry but leaves some stickiness on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: A very very good Tripel. I could easily have another one right now. A slow sipping and savoring beer that I think would pair really well with a wide range of food. Went well with black bean tacos in this case. I will definitely seek this one out again.

Pours cloudy pale gold with a rocky head that lasts a while but doesn't muster up much lace. Bread, fruity, phenolic Belgian yeast esters and herbal hops in the aroma. The taste is doughy with honey and pear hints. Alcohol is immodest for the ABV, adding prickly spicyness. Some herbal, floral hops and light bitterness in the back. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a vigorous carbonation.

A decent Tripel, though a bit boozy and could be more lively in the hop department.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ,

A: Pours a lightly hazy gold with a finger of white head, solid retention, no real lace.

S: Cake/pastry bread, yellow apples and pear - yeast, and bananas.

T: Classic apple/pear ester flavours with a hint of coriander/pepper type spice. Good malt flavours, light hopping.

M: Medium-bodied, light carbonation, no alcohol appearance which is always good in this style.

D: A nice well made tripel. Not going to wow anyone but something to definitely try for the tripel fan.

Pours a nice hazy gold with a frothy white head. The foam dissipates to leave a slight film on top.

Smells of light fruit esters (peaches, apricots, apples), citrus, malt, and a bit of sugar. Taste is much the same; a bit sweet, but balanced nicely by the presence of hops. The fruits come through again, and along with the malt and just a hint of alcohol, make for a nice, complex triple. With reasonably high carbonation, mouthfeel is nothing really special, but decent.

Overall a very drinkable example of a kind of beer that is all too often ruined by generous use of sugar.

My second beer from St. Feuillien after the saison. Pretty excited as I did enjoy the saison offering and found it to be pretty satisfying.

Appearance is pretty spot on and just what I expect and want from a nice Belgian triple. It has a really good fluffy, very slight off white head. A rich gold color with plenty of bubbly traces and a slight orange hew.

The smell is soft, but offers up hints of banana and clove, subtle spice and citrus peel scent, with a mellow yeast overtone. There is a bit of a malt hint which is kind of... unusual. Don't really know what to think of it.

The taste is surprisingly pronounced in comparison to the smell. Lots of spices to the middle and back. Has a pleasant sweet beginning with a bit of that odd malt that came off in the nose. The banana comes in with a cream taste and a bit of yeast, and then the spice and yeast explode and dry off gradually but pronounced at the end with a hint of herbal hops. There is a mineral sort of a taste to it which I enjoy quite a bit and offsets the fruit esters that are going on with this beer. The mineral taste kind of lingers, very interesting and helps puts a foundation to the beer in my opinion.

Mouthfeel is spot on! Carbonation is great! This beer is so easy to drink it is ridiculous and the booze hardly show. It's quite clean, it's perfectly dry with the perfect amount of sweetness and spice that tingles on the tongue. I would buy this beer again simply for how the flavors and mouthfeel come together. What I consider a perfect example of a Belgian triple in this regard.

Overall, and excellent triple. The malt throws me for a bit of a loop with the banana and fruit esters. The malt confuses me. And it kind of makes it a bit hard to read. But, otherwise, this is a really fine triple. I actually enjoy this more than I remember enjoying the saison. Definitely worth at least a try. The only thing bad that can come out of this is becoming a bit addicted to it... which all in all isn't that bad.

Review from notes taken while I enjoyed this beer on tap at The Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL with (among others) my two brothers-in-law Steven and Mat August 21st, 2010. Mat lives within minutes of this place and we enjoy visiting there when I am in town. Poured into a Bavarian Lodge logo'd tulip glass.

A Hazy yellow body under a generous creamy head. At least a good look for a beer of my favorite style. 4.0

S Fruitty sweet malt and heat of alcohol. This has a lot of promise as, again, it is my favorite style. 4.5

T I was looking forward to some candi sugar sweetness and heat of alcohol in the taste but what I got was the heat from the alcohol but then some bitterness mixed in which I presume is from the Belgian yeast but could be from some hops (?). I am disappointed in this taste after what was a very promising smell. 2.5

M On the thin side vs. most other triples that I have had but it is within style limits I suppose. 2.5

D Only fair. This represents my favorite style but, compared to so many other triples (Weyerbacher Merry Monks Ale, Allagash Curieux, Unibroue La Fin du Monde come immediately to mind) are much easier for me to get and are better. 3.0

Served from a bottle at Dovetail, Clerkenwell, London. 33cl, 8.50% abv. Into a St Feuillien branded chalice.

Amber body, transparent (no sediment decanted). 1/2 cm of white foam, good lacing.

Intensely fruity nose. Marshmallow (from candy sugar?), Belgian yeast. Mineral water. This smells great, just a bit of alcoholic heat.

Marhmallow comes back in the palate. A bit of funk. Candy sugar alcoholic bite - rather warming for 8.5%. Mouth-coating feel, a bit too sweet. Apples. Finish is on pale malt base with a lot of alcohol.

Pours a hazy golden with strong effervescence .
Smells of apple, pear, yeast and mild malts, unspecified esters
Tastes mild malt up front, fruity mid and balancing hops at the end with nice clean finish.
Good creamy mouthfeel, copious carbonation make it quite astringent without being unpleasant.

Solid beer for the style, would definitely stock up on this beauty (if I could find it. . . doesn't have wide distribution.

75 cl bottle 2009 vintage bottle pulled out to celebrate much better half's birthday over salmon mouse (I think Sean Paxton would have liked this paring) in Delirium Tremens tulip 3.4.11.

Poured two glasses in succession. My partner's glass was clear yellow-orange amber, one finger white head small bubbles quick dissipation minimal visible carbonation. My pour resulted in a cloudy swirling mass of light and dark yeasties, a bit slower dissipation with average lacing. I was really carefule pouring, but there was a pretty heavy dose of yeast in the bottle, certainly more than I expected for the style. Nose is on the dry side, lemony perhaps more towards Meyer Lemon, a significant botanical/pepper presence though staying on the sweet side. floral herbs on the back end. Taste mirrors nose, pretty lemony, though the dark yeast at bottom effected the last draw from glass. Mouthfeel is medium, good effervescence, dry finish. Glad I tried it once, but I'd rather have a Westmalle.

Straw gold with thick shaving cream white foam that clings like mad. 4

A lean and green Tripel - low on sweetness and fruity esters, high on hops, spicy phenols, and a bit of burn. The bits of indulgence that do pop through are fleeting enough to keep you interested. The would have almost saison-like abilities to slay everything from salad to salmon at the dinner table. A left of centre take on the standard, in a very drinkable way.

Poured from cellar temp. Pours a nice transparent golden yellow with LOTS of white head. Nose is toffee, hops, mint, clove, apples. Taste is really interesting. A tad bitter upfront, but sweet on the back end for me. Some nice grapes, apples, and a touch of citrus. Still picking up mint and clove on the aftertaste. Super smooth beer with some nice earthy malts.
