Style: American Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.60%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
This edition of our favorite coffee infused stout utilizes a boat load of Stumptown Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Chelbessa along with a small portion of Red Barn Sumatra Mandheling. The Yirgacheffe's big flavors of chocolate & citrus fruit meld beautifully with the earthy nuttiness of the Sumatra. A rich, sweet, and less roasty base beer contributes the ideal backdrop to this bold and vibrant treat for the coffee and beer lover alike!

Shared with JLindros and Threelions.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark black hue with a good one finger mocha hue that leaves great lacing, Nice and sticky marshmallow.

S - Aromas of enormous coffee notes, great Ethiopian coffee, bitter roast, assertive grounds. Good chocolate, light roast. Basically this is a coffee bomb, rich and black. Excellent.

T - Taste is not quite as good as the nose but still delicious, great coffee vibe rich, very creamy, more like a milk stout than the usual beer. This has nice chocolate, good light fruitiness from the coffee. The chocolate is up front, and then nice chocolate in the middle followed by rich deep black coffee which lingers on the aftertaste. The finish has nice creaminess that mixes well with the coffee, not bitter or astringent at all.

M - Mouthfeel is A bit lighter, Nice feel but would like a bit more chewy.

O - Overall this beer was delicious, vast improvement over an already great beer. The coffee is awesome, just awesome. Super aromatic, only complaint was the mouth wasn't as thick as I'd like.

Huge thanks to rudzud for sharing this beast. Filled a few hours ago.

Pours a huge 2 finger creamy foamy mocha head that fades at a med pace, tons of lacing all over and thick lacing, pitch black beer not even a hint of light. Marshmallow head and lacing. My pour was leaps and bounds above rudzud and threelions.

Nose brings so much espresso, I think I just woke up again just from the smell even though I wasn't asleep, huge earthy coffee, heavy intense espresso roast without much for tannin, some black malt and dark choc, fresh heavy coffee grinds, hot brewed espresso, even a hint of milk choc.

Taste starts with big roast, fresh roasted coffee beans, some espresso but not as crazy heavy as the nose was, little bitter earthy from the coffee. Some black malt, little choc, fluffy, fudgey, etc. Coffee is nice, big punch you in the face coffee, fresh coffee grinds, some mild creamy milk choc, coffee milk perhaps. Coffee is a touch fruity with the earthy, smooth. Finish is drier, long fresh coffee grinds and mild roast, little bitterness, more lactose like with coffee milk and little choc lingering.

Mouth is med to a bit heavier bod, little creamy and fluffy, decent carb, no real booze.

Overall quite nice, great espresso and coffee without too much bitterness or tannic, so much coffee but executed very well.

750ml Growler shared with Rudzud and JLindros
7.6% abv

A: Pours a deep, deep dark black with a two and a half fingers mocha/khaki head, slowly fading leaving behind great lacing. No light is getting through this one.

S: Mmmm so much coffee. Great, great coffee. That hit my nose as I just swirled this around in the glass to check out the lacing. So much coffee. I wish I could just drink the coffee that this beer was made from. Maybe chocolate in the background but this is all coffee, all the way.

T: I had high hopes that this was going to continue along as 4.75s across the board but the taste falls a bit short. This almost had to be expected because how could it really hold up to such high marks? Great taste, but far from my favorite. Not necessarily getting the fruitiness of the Ethiopian coffee that was in the billing. The more I drink the more I'm enjoying this. The first taste was sort of astringent but that has been fading the more I drink it. I don't want to say lactose because that's not what I'm really thinking but there's something going on here that is making me happy.

M: 7.6%, impressive. Not watery, not too thick, sort of just right. A bit on the heavier side but I enjoy that in a beer. I want to know that I'm drinking an adult beverage and in this one I definitely am aware of it.

O: I've now had four iterations of Double Shot: Base, Guatemala, Coconut and this Ethiopian. This is definitely my second favorite right behind Guatemala and is an extremely solid batch. Very coffee forward in smell and taste. Pretty good balance overall with a bit of creaminess without being syrupy, great coffee all around without being too know, this is just great.

Thanks to jlindros. Pours black, essentially no brown showing at the edges. Nice foamy head of light brown cream. Pretty good lacing, particularly for a growler pour. Very good retention, too. Aroma has a big shot of coffee on top of a good amount of chocolate. Really nice roasty coffee. Some fruit but it's more of a chocolate, roast mix. Creamy and nice. Reminiscent of Vietnamese Speedway, which is probably my favorite coffee stout. The flavor follows the aroma. Lots of coffee, seems a bit fruitier than the aroma. Chocolate isn't quite as big, and it could use it. I think that chocolate base would be there if they pumped up the strength a bit. There is some light milk chocolate with some some dark chocolate depth. Nice, creamy feel, particularly for a growler pour. Smooth, relatively low carbonation. Thick feel for the abv. Another excellent Treehouse beer.
