Brew: Tree House Brewing Company – Single Shot

Intro: 16 oz. poured into a tulip glass. Shared with a friend.

Appearance: Dark virtually black color. Moderate head, maybe 1.5 inches. Moderate lacing as we drank

Smell: Sweet aroma of malts, lactose, and coffee in the background.

Taste: Followed along with the smell. First off, you notice the sweetness. Milk and creamy lactose. Coffee shows up but is rather subdued

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation Creamy. Very nice

Drink: Very easy drinker, easy to go fast but slow down and enjoy.

Conclusion: Very enjoyable for a straight up coffee milk stout. Coffee is not overdone which is a good thing for me. This is the base starter for this line of milk/coffee stouts. Doesn’t have all the additives. It’s a must try for people new to Tree House milk stouts.

Pours dark black. Aroma is dominated by coffee, roasted malts and some chocolate. Taste mirrors nose with intense coffee folliwed by roasted malts and chocolate. Feel is drier than expected and medium.

Pours almost a jet black color with a half finger of head. The nose is super roasty. The flavor tastes like coffee with a touch of cream and two sugars. There is a roasted bitter undertone that gently rises above the sweetness on the finish.

This is special.

Picked-up a four-pack of cans at Tree House Brewery in Charlton for about eighteen dollars. My one hundred and thirty third brew from these guys. This is very good, appreciate the lower price point than most TH stouts.

L -- Oily, viscous black in the glass with 2+ fingers of mocha-hued head produced with moderate pour. Almost looks like a nitro beer. Great retention and lacing
S -- Dark espresso, roast, dark chocolate, black licorice
T -- Largely follows the nose. Quite a bit dryer than many of the TH stout offerings, which is nice. The coffee character is very rich, if not particularly complex
F -- Big mouthfeel, medium- carb. Very thick and velvety for the ABV
O -- A solid coffee stout all around

A: Pours a pitch black color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap

S: Roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and a touch of caramel. Very coffee-forward

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the roasted malt and coffee then picks up the dark chocolate, caramel, and even some dark fruit. Finishes with lingering coffee and roast

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A very good coffee stout that is well balanced and easy to drink. Very coffee forward with nice chocolate and fruity notes mixed in. Definitely worth checking out

16 oz. can dated 6/24/20, poured into pint glass and allowed to warm.

L: Big light-brown head upon pour, decent retention. Leaves some light tan lacing and a cap and ring. Beer is very dark brown or black.

S: Biggest notes are strong, unsweetened coffee, unsweetened cocoa, and chicory. Some porterish hop notes as well, oddly.

T: Follows nose, coffee is most predominant, along with unsweetened cocoa and there is a tad of a bitter chicory or hop note coming in on the end. Definitely not sweet at all.

F: Medium body, no carbonation. Construction and balance are quite good. Finish still seems more like a porter than a stout. I like porters, but it seems odd.

O: It's good, but not anywhere near what they achieve with Double Shot.

L: A black-brown oil with a short head that fades fast and completely and leaves no lace to speak of.

S: Smells so much like cold brewed coffee, I would expect it to not be beer.

T: Plenty of cocao to go with the coffee and I swear the cream is in there too. Still its a heavy hammer on the palate and could use some refinement.

F: As oily as it is creamy, but the weight is really impressive for the ABV. The mouthfeel reminds me of the starbucks coffees with cream in glass bottles. Quite nice.

O: I enjoyed this beer but I think it's overrated a touch as the 18th milk stout. It is not remotely as good as TH's That's What She Said.

Pours black with a one inch tan head that settles to a ring fairly quickly and leaves spotty lacing. Smells of dark roast coffee, chocolate, a hint of vanilla and caramel. Tastes of cold brewed coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, lactose sweetness and a hint of nuttiness. Full bodied, light carbonation, creamy mouth feel.

Can courtesy of DonnieT79.
Pours almost black. Dark brown creamy hot. Doesn’t stick around too long.
The smell is pretty mild. Malt, chocolate, coffee.
Taste is much stronger. Malt, coffee, roasted espresso, unsweetened bitter chocolate, cream.
Medium creamy mouthfeel.
Seems spot on for a milk stout. I see they have double and triple shot versions, so treehouse clearly isn’t trying to make a big thick high abv stout here.

My first stout from Treehouse Brewing their IPAs are stellar. The beer is 50 degrees and served in a pint glass. The pour of the beer produced a one finger billowy and airy head. The retention on the head is fair. The head is dark tan. The head of the beer left no lacing on the glass. The beer is dark brown. I would have expected to see more head retention. Also, a creamier head would have made the beer more appealing to me.

The aromas in the beer are mild chocolate, coffee, vanilla, dark roasted malts, char, earthy, milk, caramel, and a hint of herbal.

The flavors of the beer are medium roasted coffee, toffee, molasses, char, earthy, oats, milk chocolate, caramel, vanilla, cream, and biscuit.

The mouthfeel of the beer is creamy, coating, and smooth.

The body of the beer is dense, medium carbonation, and a lasting finish.

After I nosed the beer, I thought this beer was a bust. The aromas were not as represented compared to the flavors. When I sipped the beer, my palate began to sing. The beer taste like a vanilla bean ice cream with chocolate and coffee served in liquid form. Seriously, how do you get this from a beer? Phenomenal Beer, I would love to own a six-pack.
