Single Shot - Vanilla BeanSingle Shot - Vanilla Bean
Notes: We are excited to present the first variant of our coffee milk stout: SINGLE SHOT w/ Vanilla Bean! This modification builds upon the original by conditioning the finished beer on Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Beans. We also varied the typical coffee blend by infusing a single beautiful coffee, Guatemala Candelaria! What resulted is a beer that exhibits a subtle and well integrated vanilla note with rich coffee character while retaining a wonderful airiness and drinkability. The crew here tastes bourbon chocolate, brown sugar, and vanilla with a soft coffee acidity on the finish. The vanilla reveals nuanced character as it warms, though never overwhelming the senses, with the coffee notes slowly mellowing. This is a real treat to us, and one that marks the start of an invigorating path for Single Shot!

L - gorgeous dark brown allows slivers of light to pass through while pouring. End result is a pretty damn black brew with a fragile head that comes as quickly as it goes.

S - lots of coffee roast up front. This seems more bitter than regular Single Shot. Burnt coffee grounds with hints of vanilla shining through at the very end. Some light chocolate syrup sweetness.

T - much more stringent and acidic than regular Single Shot, which was more of a Starbucks latte sort of drink, whereas this is black French vanilla coffee. Has a nutty, burnt buttered popcorn roastiness and surprising bitterness on the finish. Vanilla is there but not in the cloying, sweet, sugary processed way. This is raw extract. Dark, bold, vanilla bean flavors.

F - creamy and soft, yet light-bodied to feel like a rich, decadent roast served black.

O - I'd say the vanilla bean doesn't impart a strongly vanilla flavor as much as it alters the entire composition and structure of the beer from sweet "cream and two sugars" to raw, passionate, whole bean black iced coffee. Different beans create different flavors. The vanilla isnt an add-on, it's the core foundation that this beer is built upon.

16oz can, opened the same day it was canned (well, technically yesterday, since it's shortly after midnight) and served in a snifter. Bursting with coffee flavor. I'm not usually a big fan of "milk stouts", but this beer is better than any previous milk stout I've tried. The vanilla bean complements the coffee perfectly.

This was my first visit to Tree House, and the two beers I picked up (this and the Julius IPA) are two of the smoothest and most drinkable beers I've ever had. I had high expectations for this brewery, and Tree House lived up to the hype!

16oz. can served in a tulip. This beer looks amazing in the glass. Pours an inky, opaque black with a dense, 2.5 inch, mocha-colored head embedded with tiny pinpricks. Nose expresses big roasted coffee notes, followed by an essence of milk sugar and vanilla sweetness and ending with rich, chocolatey goodness. Taste consistent with nose; however, the sweetness comes off little artificial, but delightful nonetheless. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (closer to the medium end of the spectrum), with a mild, even carbonation and a semi-silky texture. Overall - really delightful. Doesn't getter much better than this for the style.

Canned 7/8/16 (yesterday), it pours as dark as a black hole with a 2-3 finger tan head that was full of bubbles of all sizes, dissipating very slowly and leaving very good foamy lacing coating the sides. Looks incredible for a milk stout.

Smells like a cross between an espresso and a fresh roasted black bold Starbucks coffee. Nose includes burnt coffee grinds, anise, vanilla, cocoa powder, fresh ground coffee beans, cold pressed coffee, dark chocolate, bakers chocolate, light piney hops, fresh cream or half and half, and then more coffee. Really a pleasure to inhale.

Tastes just like the nose with an incredibly rich fresh coffee flavor that has excellent chocolate malts, fresh ground coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, espresso and a wonderful coffee bitterness that reminds me of either fresh Kona or Sumatra beans ground up with vanilla extract or chocolate syrup drizzled on top. Simply delicious.

Mouthfeel is silky smooth, creamy and thin to milky/watery, yet it has just enough weight to pull off the stout feel and allow the bitterness to zing your senses before the coffee takes over and brings out an incredibly complex array of flavors which lets the coffee, vanilla, chocolate and chocolate malts shine. By far the greatest milk stout I've ever had. Basically incredible across the board, smooth, tasty and easy to drink. A coffee lovers sip of heaven.

Coffee forward on the nose and taste followed suit. Mouthfeel is light and where it needs to be for a 6.4% abv stout. Once it warmed, the taste opened up with marshmallow, chocolate, vanilla, and roasty coffee. This one is great to sip on and vanilla is the finest adjunct in all the land.

750 growler from 11/23. carbonation seems a bit softer than cans, could be from the age of the growler but definitely has a smoother feel than I remember from the can. the vanilla is really nice over the top of the beer and gives the coffee a bit of a dessert vibe while also adding some char to give it a porter feel. really perfect beer for the first snow of the season locally.

Poured out as a nice black color with a tan head on top. The smell of the beer is a good blend of roasted sweet malts and coffee. The taste of the beer is really nice, The coffee and vanilla go very well together. The feel is creamy and smooth. Overall it's an excellent beer.

Picked up a single can of this at the brewery.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thick mocha head that fades to leave light lacing and a creamy blanket.

S - Big aromas of chocolate syrup and bakers chocolate, little bit of coffee grounds, some nice vanilla as well. The finish is almost overwhelmingly coffee.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of sweeter malts and caramel. Tons of sweet coffee candies, cloyingly so. Decent amount of coffee creme as well. Really really sweet.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, creamy, little thick.

O - Overall this was a solid enough stout, the vanilla is subtle and the coffee is nice but holy cow is this sweet!
