Pours black with a finger of khaki head. Head retention is minimal with no lacing left behind. Aroma is milk chocolate, light toasted and roasted malts, with a big hit of coffee. Coffee is medium-roast with chocolaty, and earthy notes. It has a touch of spice to the coffee as well, but more of a holiday spice, not a heat spice. Flavor profile starts out as a simple, but well executed milk stout hitting notes of roasted and toasted malts, lactose, and milk chocolate. As the beer warms on the palate, notes of chocolaty, medium-roast coffee soar finishing the beer with a huge dose of coffee. The lactose and coffee mix well forming almost a coffee and creamer taste. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a velvety, creamy, decadent feel. Overall, strong and tasty coffee notes added to a solid milk stout.

L - about time I get around to properly reviewing this. Had one bottle on Christmas day, and the next on... May 19. Pours a heavily aged motor oil. The darkest of browns. Modest mocha head with bubbles that would terrify trypophobes.

S - enormous cocoa powder fudginess up front that explodes out of the glass when poured. Herbaceous cinnamon-esque mocha coffee that fills the lungs and nose like a drowning victim struggling for air. Drowning in Double Shot may be a terrible way to go, but not the worst! Finishes with hints of potpourri.

T - oh man, just as good as I remember on Christmas morning. Getting all the sweet classics a la lactosey milk sugar, chocolate, fudge, and dark roasted coffee loaded up with an unhealthy amount of all the fixins'. Whole bean cocoa twang and if you're reaching, maybe a puff of chili powder. Warm and inviting. Hint of cigarette smoke and rock candy.

F - so sweet. I can feel that thin film of saliva (or is that pure sugar?) collecting on my lips and tongue. Velvety smooth. A real treat.

O - tastes like my mother's famous chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. One time my dad tried to make that cake for her birthday but we think he forgot the water. We try not to talk about that but suffice to say I'm simultaneously drowning and dehydrating right now.

just a gorgeous stout .... dark in color, milkshake creamy tan head, super dense and frothy. on nose is roasty malts, coffee note that is not overly bold but super complex and deep. doesnt smell like generic coffee but rather a high end bag that is sharply roasty and has mellow acidic fruity notes in the back, hints of blueberry for sure. on palate is slightly bitter roasty malts, brown sugar, low molasses, sugary roasted nuts, hing of spice, bittersweet dark and luscious milk chocolate playing with a whipped cream type note. fresh ground coffee as described on nose, brings a nice bite of roasty bitterness to match the sweeter chocolate notes. mouthfeel is medium bodied but oh so creamy and velvety smooth. overall the perfect balance achieved in this brew almost makes it seem mellow, restrained. but its depth of character and boldness in the coffee and chocolate notes cannot be denied. just a perfect brew.

A: Seductive pitch black pour. Finger of pillowy tan head, darker as it approaches the liquid. Excellent retention, as per usual...

S: Vanilla latte and milk chocolate. Leads sweeter than your average DS variant, with an almost lactose-like marshmallow quality. Coffee expresses as a fruity medium roast—cherry, raspberry, and orange zest. Like a s’more made with the fruity filling of a cordial, or something.

T: Waves upon waves of dessert. Dark chocolate and that smooth, low-acid cold brew to kick things off, but then the sweetness hits... Dark becomes milk, roast succumbs to sugar. Finish is sticky with lingering undertones of that fruity coffee. Think cherry cordial covered maple syrup. Vanilla latte expresses more as it warms (is there lactose in this?).. Hints of Vietnamese iced coffee made with that sweetened condensed milk. Truly decadent.

M: Rich and creamy. Carbonation is perfect—dense and fine, creating a feel that falls at that elusive intersection of fluff and syrup. Sweetness is really amplified here for the occasion, but something keeps toeing that line of drinkability so damn perfectly… Bitterness is soft and rounded, a gentle mix of roasts that never emerges to the forefront, but does that heavy lifting in the background to keep this thing scarily chuggable.

O: Certainly lives true to its intention to be a more decadent holiday treat than other recent variants. That syrupy dark fruit expression of the blend of beans works really damn well with the chocolate of the base, and the body more than does justice to the flavor profile, despite the kicked back ABV from other variants of late. Delicious stuff.

Bottled 12/22/17. Enjoyed 2/11/18. Acquired in a trade for 2 fresh OH cans.

Look: Perfectly blended jet black, creamy pour, like a mildly dense coffee. Foam gathers slowly but builds fast (would be nice on Nitro). Nice strong thick foam head that lingers and laces, light caramel in color.
Smell: Sweet coffee, tiramisu, whipped cream, maple syrup, fresh cacao powder.
Taste: Dark chocolate, fresh and rich coffee, cinnamon, maple syrup, bourbon, rum, nutmeg, coriander, slight raspberry and cherry aftertaste.
Feel: Wet, fresh, enriching, refreshing, spicy tang on the tail end.
Overall: This is an incredible beer that reminds me of a CBS with less alcohol and syrupy feel. I really enjoyed the watery and refreshing feel and taste to it that makes it incredibly drinkable and enjoyable. Very close to a Finback Hawk and Whale.
