We are pleased to introduce Catharsis, a rich and hearty porter ideally suited for these cold winter months! Catharsis is brewed with an array of pale, chocolate, and roasted malts and hopped ever so gently with Warrior and Simcoe resulting in a beer with progressive attributes and a characteristic Tree House edge. We experience flavors and aromas of cocoa powder, fudge, and caramel balanced by a dark chocolate-like bitterness and a hearty body. Catharsis is robust yet pleasant. It is rich with flavor yet maintains an easy drinking complexion. It is our focused interpretation of what we believe a modern American Porter can be. We could not be more excited to share it with you. Enjoy!

Poured from 16oz can into pint glass in February 2023, that I purchased at their brewery in Charlton, MA. There is a date of Winter 2023 on the bottom of the can, and I drank this about 1 month after I purchased it.
Appearance: Very dark black with almost no head. The head was dark brown, and disappeared after a minute. It left only a little lacing on the glass, and no head remained after a minute.
Smell: Strong mix of aromas filled the room as soon as the can was opened. Roasted coffee, caramel, and chocolate aromas. Not much hop style citrus or pine aromas.
Taste: There is taste of chocolate, vanilla, and licorice. Also, some coffee and roasted malt flavors. They are more balanced than I expected from the aroma. Flavors are very bold. There is a strong alcohol presence that matches 7.4% advertised. A sweet chocolate, and vanilla aftertaste, that is really enjoyable.
Mouth-feel: Very thick, but with an extremely smooth and creamy body.
This is a very good Porter, and one of the best Porters I have ever drank. It has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. The balance of flavors is outstanding. The flavors of coffee and roasted malt nicely balance the sweet chocolate and caramel flavors. It is very smooth and enjoyable to drink. I have enjoyed all the beers I've bought at Tree House, and I would buy this again.

Look: dark and mysterious, but there is a limit to how good it can look in a plastic cup.
Smell: not getting much, maybe too cold
Taste: ooh yum, there's a lot going on here, its sweet and toasty and, uh, zingy? All of it is very much enhanced by the...
Feel: mouth coating and clingy, really draws out all the great flavor notes.
Overall: I am loving this.

On tap at Tree House Charlton
Round 2 of this trip to Tree House. Another example of a classic style from Tree House that I’ve been meaning to try for a while now, and one I’m happy I waited to have on draft. Let’s warm up a bit with this hearty Porter
Pours a very dark brown with 2 fingers of of dense tan head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
This has a nice depth to the nose, with a firm bitterness to keep everything in check. I’m picking up on aromas of medium roast coffee, cocoa powder, dark bread, sweet caramel, light vanilla, bittersweet dark chocolate, and a touch of black cherry
It goes a bit more roasty than I would prefer in taste, but it’s still good. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting black cherry, burnt coffee, caramel, dark toast, milk chocolate, light vanilla, and a touch of herbal hops. The swallow brings notes of cocoa powder, bittersweet dark chocolate, burnt coffee, toffee, vanilla, light dark bread, and herbal hops
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a creamy beer with a bit of bite. Finishes neutral and firmly bitter
As I said, I prefer less roast in my Porter, but this was enjoyable overall

Can bought on 8/11/22 from Treehouse Charlton. No visible date on can aside from 2022. Poured into a tulip glass.
Pours a beautiful onyx with a ruddy creamy head,
Nice roasted malt aroma
Beautiful dark roasted malt flavor, dark chocolate bitterness but nicely balanced with a slight sweetness.
Great smooth mouthfeel with an ever so slight mild hop bite.
This is probably my favorite Porter. Great flavor and well balanced!

16 oz can poured into a snifter. Pours pitch black with a medium tan head. Decent retention and lacing. Aroma and flavor feature dark roasted malts, black coffee, earthy hops, and cocoa, with moderate bitterness. No booziness. Mouthfeel is full, not too creamy with a dry finish. Overall it's a solid American porter but not a blow-me-away beer like I've come to expect from TH.

Nice and roasty, but balanced well. A little thin in body.
