Notes: Impermanence is an imperial milk stout brewed with coffee, chocolate, and maple syrup. Below these additions lies a complex base of chocolate, caramel, and dark crystal malts. A kettle addition of lactose serves to amplify the decadence of this uniquely Tree House offering. Impermanence coats the tongue with flavors of sweet milk chocolate, dark amber maple syrup, and coffee ice cream. It's an incredible treat - a bona fide breakfast confections bonanza. It is an example of what is possible with careful selection of ingredients paired with focused brewing execution. Please enjoy it fresh and use it as an opportunity to reflect, give thanks, and enjoy in the company of others.

L - pours like the motor oil in my car that's gone tens of thousands of miles without a change. It's okay though since the thing burns oil like crazy, so it basically changes itself when I put more in. Looks thick and syrupy; leaves legs after swirling. Mocha tan head doesn't last long, but leaves a frothy hot chocolate ring behind.

S - brown sugar and chocolate cake. Iced coffee with that RAW sugar stuff. Fresh medium coffee roast with hints of fennel. Lactose and subtle underlying maple.

T - initial flavor is tart, almost sour, sugary coffee grounds. Milk sugar and bittersweet dark chocolate. Pointed hoppiness and herbal flowery characteristics. Dates and barley. The maple accents everything and is delicate, yet actually fucking exists unlike a lot of "maple" stouts. Almost feels a little zesty and bitey. Finishes mostly neutral with lingering bitterness and slick sugariness.

F - a little thinner than I'd like, but that's the price you pay with maple. Lively, and I think the zestiness contributes to that. Feels like it's vibrating in my mouth.

O - a treat indeed. Lots of aggressive coffee flavors, and also soothing lactosiness. A little disappointed that it wasn't as breakfasty or decadent, but the bitterness is a beautiful equalizer. Complex, with a hell of a lot of depth, this is another winner from TH.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

The pour is jet black with a finger of caramel head. The head slowly fades into a thick, creamy blanket, leaving a beautiful crown of lacing along the way.

The aroma is so close to reaching Double Shot levels of stupidity, but falls just short. Still, the aroma is ridiculously stupid. Fresh roasted coffee, milk chocolate, caramel, and graham crackers, followed by a subtle wave of maple syrup and cookie dough ice cream.

The taste reverses the nose a bit, starting off with sweet milk chocolate, caramel, and chocolate chip cookies, followed by some maple syrup and vanilla, and finished off with some roasted coffee. Very sweet, but not cloying.

The feel is medium-full bodied with lower carbonation. Incredibly fluffy, soft, smooth and creamy. Alcohol is barely noticeable.

Overall, this definitely holds up to any other stout brewed by Tree House. It's very sweet, but the coffee adds a nice roasted flavor for balance. The maple syrup is present but doesn't overwhelm the other flavors. This is pure decadence in a glass.

I’ve have not been impressed with TH stouts and this one is no different. It seems hollow like it’s missing something maybe it’s the body which I thought was a little thin. Way to sweet for me I actually drain poured it when I was about half way through the beer.

500ml bottle, undated, poured into a Half Acre "occult" tulip glass. Enjoyed on 07.07.19, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a deep jet black color, thick, inky and oily with a khaki head that has little height and retention with great lacing. The aroma is nice, lots of maple, rich and decadent chocolate, nice coffee roast, dark grains, brownie batter and a touch of vanilla cream. The flavors are in line with the nose, crazy adjunct forward, rich and sweet maple, brownie batter chocolate, dark rich grains, a nice light coffee profile bridges the sweet with some roast and acidity while vanilla and caramel ensure this finishes with more sweetness. The mouthfeel is great, thick, creamy, heavy body that coats well and finishes easily.

Verdict: A nice adjunct forward milk stout from Tree House. Rich, decadent, creamy, it's got just about everything for a pastry stout but perhaps loses sight of the traditional characteristics of a milk stout.

Pours a very deep black color with a thin brown head on top. Nice chocolate notes on the nose along with some dark roast. The taste has a good balance of dark chocolate and some subtle sweetness. The feel is silky smooth. Overall it’s a very good stout.

A very nice. well-balanced beer. A bit too cloying for my taste but overall one of the better coffee, milk stouts that I've had. Alcohol is noticeable but not overwhelming. Coffee character is what propels this beer to its heights.

One of the better beers I've had. Pours really black with a mocha colored whipped cream looking head. I expected more maple syrup in the nose and taste. If you aren't into stouts I would definitely grab this one and try it out. After it sat in the glass for 5 or 10 min it was almost perfection.

Shared with JLindros. Picked up at the brewery.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark black hue with a nice mocha head that fades to leave light wisps.

S - Aromas of big sweet milk stout, lactose, malt sweetness as well as some lightly nutty coffee. The chocolate is faint but there is a ton of maple.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with big coffee cream notes, little caramel, nice chocolate notes, really nice maple creams as well. Huge maple really.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, creamy, smooth.

O - Overall this was a rather solid milk stout. I think it lacks a little balance though, as regular Moments of Clarity was far better than this imperial version.
