Super TyphoonSuper Typhoon
Notes: Super Typhoon is a rendition of Hurricane that features amplified additions of Simcoe and Citra in both the kettle and the dry hop. Additionally, process modifications make for a fuller bodied base beer capable of absorbing the additional hop charges without becoming abrasive or astringent. The result is perhaps our favorite amalgamation of hops in our short history. We taste heavy notes of tropical fruit and passion fruit from the Simcoe blending seamlessly with orange sherbet notes from the Citra. An airy mouthfeel and a creamy body makes for a beer that never becomes burdensome to drink, and gets better as you move through the glass. We are excited to share it with you.

L - Super Typhoon? Okay. We're getting a pale shade of impenetrably hazy orange. Getting a bit dark toward the center there. Like the eye of a TYPHOON amirite?! The head consists of good-sized bubbles that retreat quickly, leaving a thin film behind.

S - pith is the key word here. Grainy, gritty, stringy pineapple, grapefruit, and orange zestiness. In classic TH mega-hopped fashion, the aroma is deep and rich, permeating every canal in my nose. Maybe a hint of sweet, dank creamsicle toward the end.

T - initial flavor is a medley of bubblegum and papaya tossing punches at each other after they've just exploded through the peach glass window on the side of a giant tropical skyscraper. An earthy, twangy, mealy onslaught of fresh, bright hops coat the tongue and mouth. Delicate but forceful balance of juice and herbs. Leaves a lingering numbness that strips any moisture off your tongue.

F - not as juicy and full as I'd expect! Falls a bit flat and isn't able to hold the flavor in position long enough to fully soak into my body. Of course, complaining here is like being upset that my gold bar is misshapen and ugly. I can't hang it from my ceiling where my chandelier should be, but it's still a fuckin' gold bar.

O - TH touches on this in their description, but Nate truly has a talent for hopping the piss out of a beer without falling victim to the astringent acidicity that befalls many overtly hopped brews. I love when brewers push the limits, but they have to do so in a drinkable fashion. Once again, TH nails it.

This one pours a very hazy orange color, with a small head, and lots of sticky lacing.

This smells like orange creamsicle, fresh cut grass, pine, weed, passionfruit, and sweet grapefruit.

The taste is basically the same- this is much drier than I was expecting from one of Tree House "big beers." It's not exactly a juice bomb, but it's got a great orange sherbet/orange creamsicle thing going, with some grapefruit pith, sweet grapefruit flesh, grassy/piney bitterness, and a nice herbal dankness on the finish.

This is medium bodied, and super crisp and clean, with a good level of carbonation and a high level of drinkability.

This was a tiny bit underwhelming, but it's still objectively a very good beer.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Tree House Brewing Company, Charlton, MA
06/22/18
Served in a Tree House teku

The nearly opaque, pale straw yellow body was topped by a creamy, finger-tall, bone white crown that fell to a thick, clingy collar. Streaky, spotty lacing trickled down the sides of the glass.

The aroma was really hoppy but nuanced. Big fruity and floral hop notes. Mango was quite noticeable. Some grapefruit came through as well. Bit of a honey-like character too. Orange and tangerine notes were also apparent. As the beer sat, the citrus presence intensified. There was a subtle, chalky yeast quality as well. Later, melon notes appeared. More sweetness too.

The flavor was much more citrus forward. Juicy orange and tangerine notes dominated. A bright, lemony quality came through in the center. Good dose of orange peel as well. More tangy tangerine and citrus pith on the back end and in the finish. Just a hint of lingering bitterness.

Super soft, smooth, supple mouthfeel. Creamy and slick on the palate. Medium bodied for the style. The liquid contained an ultra fine and subtle effervescence. Signature Tree House.

Super Typhoon is an enjoyable, juicy, fruit-forward double IPA, but it fails to stand out from Tree House’s other hoppy beers. This might be worth trying if you have the opportunity, but it is probably not worth actively seeking out.

Don’t know how they hit a home run every time. Getting to the point where I don’t like any beer that is not Treehouse. If you have a chance just max out you’re allotment of this beer. I like lots of fresh beer from local brewery’s but the bar is set very high at this place. Enjoy also what is available at local breweries as this style and many other styles are truly a work of art!!!!

Canned 5/24/18, big thanks to rudzud for picking this up and sharing

Pours a decent foamy creamy almost 1 finger head that fades at a med pace, nice lacing, super murky lemony tangerine orange color

Nose loads of citrus, tons of orange and tangerine, juicy, some grapefruit and a little lemony, cereal grains and some sweet malt notes, bit of a vanilla orange cream thing going on, some dankness mixed with grassy herbal like notes and a little dank citrus almost tropical

Taste brings more citrus but mixed dank grassy leafy thing, little orange cream thing going again with some tangerine, a touch of grapefruit pith, melon balls and mild bubblegum, a lot of papery pulp with a little dank generic tropical note but barely, hops turning fairly bitter and a bit spicy, with more of that papery grassy leaf thing and flowery, creamy base malt and little chalky like thing, minerals too, dry finish fair bitter

Mouth is med bod creamy little soft juicy, decent carb

Overall what's going on with this? It's not that great, esp for Tree House, feel like something didn't go right on this one.

Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice hazy light pale straw hue with a one finger head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin halo.

S - Aromas of dank hops, grapefruit peel and citrus, bright, light malts, nice dank green hops. The Simcoe is rather dominant.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice melon notes, good dank hops, light greener hops, little juicy bubblegum notes, floral green grass. Some more citrus and grapefruit bitterness on the finish.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, little fluffy, alcohol hidden well.

O - Overall this was a somewhat underwhelming beer. It's solid sure but there is some definite hop clashes. Unfortunate.

TREE HOUSE SUPER TYPHOON IPA 10/2/18

Bought at the brewery recently.

Poured from the 16 oz. can into a Tree House stemmed tulip pint

a; Cloudy orange/yellow with an inch thick white head which receded to thin surface foam and dense lacing.

s: Moderate citrus and pine resin, leaning to orange pith.

t; Follows the nose with moderate bitterness and a dry finish where some bitterness lingers.

m; Heavier side of medium, very good body and some carbonation tingle.

o; A fine TH entry, surprisingly perhaps a bit more muted than anticipated for an Imperial aka a hopped-up Hurricane, but does drink very well and the taste has a full measure of the signature TH quality. Made for a good accompaniment to our homemade Mexican dinner, but also a great after dinner sipper.

L: that TH pale haze you come to exect lacing is slight less the some of the core beers, nose is a also a tad under as well after to take a deeper sniff but like that the taste is different more bitterness seem presence and overall not just a fruit juice bomb and mean that as a compliant seem more balance with bitterness, aroma and taste.

Overall love this beer that it has a bite too it and some topical fruit mixed with pine,

Poured from the can into a snifter.
Pours a lovely hazy glowing deep yellow/light orange sunset. Ample thick head.
Aromas are really lovely levels of light citrus, lemon zest, some grapefruit and hoppiness.
Flavors are right there with aromas, but also delicate, refined...not a juicebomb nor overdone. Balanced.
Mouthfeel is exceptional as with all TH beers.
Overall, this beer is much more sophisticated than I was expecting. Quenching and delicious.

16oz can, Tree House snifter glass. Pours a cloudy golden body, hazy with a one and half finger white head, good retention, plenty of lacing. Smell is mildly juicy citrus, a bit of tropical fruit, fair bit of floral resin but without too much of a herbal bite. Mildly sweet sugar and Tree House yeast esters. It's solid and in some ways, not all that distinctly different than some of the other hoppy beers coming out of that brewery. Flavour follows; mild tropical fruit, light floral resin, citrus and a bit of zest as well. Not particularly herbal, mildly estery. Medium bodied, creamy, soft carbonation as per usual from Tree House. Mildly zesty citrus and floral notes. Some grapefruit. Solid Tree House hop, doesn't really have a lot more to it than most other hops- although it seems a bit less distinct and less nuanced than the likes of Julius, Green and Alter Ego. But it's a nice tipple nonetheless.
