In 2014, I brewed an American Pale Ale - Beneficiaries of Chance - to celebrate marrying the love of my life, Lauren. Over the years time it has become a perpetual tradition to honor our bond with a new, celebratory beer to mark the occasion. For our fourth anniversary, I am pleased to offer a new Double IPA, I Have Promises To Keep! It is brewed with copious doses of Nelson and Citra in both the kettle and the dry hop. It tastes and smells strongly of citrus, sweet sauvignon blanc grapes, and gooseberries. It is loaded with flavor and yet maintains an easy drinking, mouth watering appeal. As the years pass by, and bonds grow deeper, it’s vital to reflect upon, and give thanks for, the special people in your life. I sincerely hope that this beer may serve as a vehicle to do so.

Pours an orangeish golden with white head. Not as murky as say a King Julius. Mango, orange zest, and papaya along with some white grape on the nose. It is also very Nelson forward with white grape and black pepper at the forefront. Which is great if you love Nelson but it kinda overwhelms the Citra. Given that this was a marriage beer from Tree House, I was hoping it would be something more harmonious, but the Citra is lost. There isn't the mango, the papaya, the grapefruit that you would expect. It falls a bit flat.

Pours a very hazy pineapple color with a creamy, fluffy white head that is sticky like glue to the glass, tracking all the way down to the bottom. Ripe tangerine and green grape notes primarily, with some pineapple as well and a bit of passion fruit.

The tangerine and and green grape flavors are most prominent and absolutely delicious, and there’s a bit of pineapple and passion fruit and a nice oat sweetness at the back of the palate. Wow, is this good.

The mouthfeel is soft and inviting. There’s a reason Tree House has the status in the beer nerd world that they do, because they keep churning out world class beers, IMHO.

Nice juicy hoppy aroma. Juicy, lemony, bitter flavor. Exceptionally easy drinking DIPA.

1 month old. Can to pint glass.

Look: Pours a light hazy yellow with a thick white foam and a nice lacing. No floaters.

Smell: Fresh citrus fruits. Mainly lemon. A bit orange.

Taste: Also citrus. Lemon and orange are nicely balanced. A bit grapefruit. Slightly zesty. Hints of sweetness punctuated with subtle bitter notes.

Feel: Nice and smooth. Not as full as other Treehouse brews but still very juicy. Just the right amount of carbonation.

Overall: Great example of a hazy Treehouse DIPA with the typical citrus notes. Not as spectacular as some others of their brews yet still very solid.

Bright white head, close to two fingers, decent retention, lacing forms a pleasing thin webbing. Fully opaque liquid, more yellow than anything darker, visually it's the lacing that's most attractive. There's a firm spine to the nose formed of white pepper and green grass, penetrates very well, dried pine sap, melon, kumquat, kiwi, peach fruit scents, well-balanced and integrated. Light to medium-bodied, the carbonation sizzles like a fireworks sparkler, more steady than powerful. Mix of pink and white grapefruit flavors, the pine more pronounced here. The fruit remains mostly green melon, kiwi and peach with moments of sour pineapple. Sweet tea leaf, chamomile, oats assist it in staying the middle ground between sweet and dry. This while allowing for the right amount of bitterness to linger through the finish. Makes you want to take another sip. (Canned 12/20/21)
