Very Good
Bear W/ CoffeeBear W/ Coffee
Notes: We are excited to welcome Bear back, this time with a tasteful and restrained addition of custom roasted coffee! After careful deliberation and assessment, we chose a coffee that exhibits delicate flavors of milk chocolate, cinnamon, and molasses. The base beer features flavors and aromas of toffee, caramel, chocolate, brown bread, and black coffee - a lovely pairing for the delicate, lightly roasted coffee for which it shares the glass. Though this beer is rich with flavor and complexity, it drinks smoothly and easily… an ideal pairing for a hearty winter meal or a day spent on the ice. A winter treat, indeed!

Thanks to rudzud. Canned 2/01/19

Forced pour gives a decent thicker foamy brown head with nice retention and lacing, dark opaque brown color

Nose big coffee, roasted coffee beans, little nutty earthy coffee, touch fruity, very nutty both coffee and malt, little burnt char ash thing, spicy earthy hop, toasted brown malts, little peanutbutter fudge, burnt coffee

Taste a little sweet malt but toasted brown malts, little biscuity, mild caramel toffee like, roasted coffee beans, nutty coffee and a little earthy ashy, smooth brown malts but mild acrid, medium bitterness with spicy hops, mild cocoa, finishes fair bitterness spicy hops, and

Mouth is med to fuller bod, little smooth, no alcohol, lighter carb

Overall mixed, some decent American brown notes but burnt coffee, very nutty, ashy, but in general wasn't that great

Bottom of can:

"Just a wee hint
02/01/19."

Moderate pour yields a one inch tan head over a brown body with some lacing. Head dissipates after a few minutes but comes back nicely with a vigorous swirl or two. Great nose of coffee, dark malt, vanilla, caramel, and chocolate. Taste mirrors nose nicely and as it warms, the aromas and flavors become even more pronounced. Good feel and overall, I am diggin' this beer, even though it is a tad thin.
Cheers to TH (and my connection, Rob!!!)

Picked up a can of this to share with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark chestnut brown hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin blanket

S - Aromas of an old stale ashtray, decent coffee, fair amount of biscuits. Really nutty and burnt coffee like.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of spicy hops on the taste, little sweetness, decent biscuit notes. Nutty but with burnt acrid coffee. Loads more of the weird ashtray flavour that plagues this beer.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, little slick though.

O - Overall this was just all over the place. That ashtray throughout really ruins this beer. What is mess?

Pours a deep, dark brown with a thin tan head. The head leaves a fair bit of lacing before settling into a crown.

The aroma brings notes of caramel, roasted coffee, chocolate, and brown sugar.

The taste follows the nose: Lots of caramel and brown sugar with a nice middling wave of coffee. There's a faint kiss of hops on the finish.

The feel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth and creamy. Very dry finish.

Overall, a great brown ale that comes exactly as advertised; It's Bear with coffee. Not much different yet still very much worth trying.

Label says Bear with a hint of coffee. Tree House tempering expectations here?

This one pours a dark-ish brown color - much prettier and less sludgy looking than regular Bear. There's a small white head and a good bit of lacing.

This has some nice spice and breadiness to it, with creamy coffee, slight vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, and molasses.

As indicated by the can, this is a much more restrained coffee addition than the typical Tree House coffee beer. It's got a nice maltiness, and some slight spice, vanilla, and chocolate from the light coffee addition. The taste falls off slightly at the very end of the beer, and it feels a touch thin.

This is kind of thin bodied, and I wish there was more creaminess to it. It's pretty drinkable, though.

Though this looks nicer than the regular Bear, I think the regular Bear overall tastes much better.
