Double Shot - Ethiopian DurominaDouble Shot - Ethiopian Duromina
Notes: For this batch of Double Shot, we used a coffee from the Duomina Cooperative in Ethiopia, roasted by our good friends at Stumptown Coffee! In our ongoing search to find the most succinct and expressive coffees, we are excited to have come across a bean with such complexity and flair. We taste dark chocolate, syrupy vanilla, stone fruit, and cherry, providing an enjoyable complexity to a well established base beer. Duromina means ‘improve their lives’ in the Afan Oromo language, and we intend to have this beer do just that. Enjoy!

Thanks to rudzud
Nice foamy creamy thick dense mocha colored head, nice lacing and retention, pitch black

Nose mild fruity slight nutty coffee, little earthy roast, mild cocoa, mild spicy hops, roasty, fairly light

Taste rich dark malts, and dark roasty coffee, mild char, decent coffee, fairly fruity coffee, berry fruit, earthy char, little cocoa almost fudgey, caramel mild candy syrup, mild alcohol warmth and tingle, little earthy spicy hops

Mouth is fuller bod, decent fizzy creamy carb, mild warming spicy alcohol

Overall good but not quite as good as the Colombian somehow, decent base beer but on the lighter side and not a ton of coffee,

Bottle. I think my third Double Shot. I think I have enjoyed each one less and less. I'm either becoming much more sensitive to the intense sweetness or these are getting way sweeter. I lean towards the former. It looks and smells like the others. Excellent grades. The flavor is decadent and very well done but now I think the sweetness has started to get to me. Still a strong offering from a strong series. Just starting to phase out of beers like this methinks.

Pours black with a finger and a half of caramel-colored foam even after a modest 10oz pour. Aroma is chocolate, rich coffee, cocoa nibs, and roasty and toasty malts from the moment the bottle is opened. Swirling the glass and dipping the nose in reveals a fleshy, medium-bodied coffee complimented with roasty malts and milk and dark chocolate. It has a hint of sweetness, but remains remarkably well centered. Flavor profile is roasty, toasty, caramely malts right up front, and then flows into fleshy, medium-bodied coffee with a chocolaty finish. It opens up standard stout before showing its true colors between the coffee and chocolate. Balance is pleasant thanks to the dynamic profile, and not providing just a singular explosion of flavor. Mouth feel is creamy with a very fine silty texture at the finish, akin to the final 1/3 of a cup of coffee brewed in a French Press. Overall, rich and coffee forward, this is one delicate and lovely stout.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegalau tulip from a 500mL bottle.

Bottle. Tan head. Lace. Black color.

Chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee, roasted malts, vanilla, fudge, and light berries. Smooth and creamy. Nice flavors, but a bit overrated.
