Notes: We are pleased to welcome Summer to the Tree House family just in time for the season of sunshine, warm weather, beach trips, and hanging out in the backyard! Summer is a heavily oat saturated Double IPA brewed with sunny American hops including Amarillo, Citra, & Magnum. It pours a thick yellow color in the glass, with a billowing, robust head -- a real stunner visually! We taste and smell fresh squeezed orange juice, mango gummies, clementine sorbet, and citrus pith. Summer is a chewy IPA, leaving behind fruity hop oils on the tongue to entice the next sip. Drink it cold and drink it straight from the can for maximum hop enjoyment. This beer has us super excited for a summer of good beer, good friends, and new memories - enjoy!

Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice hazy golden orange hue with a thin white head that fades to leave nice lacing and a thin blanket.

S - Big aromas of citrus peel and orange juice, nice pithy notes as well as flashes of tropical notes. Little yeasty on the finish. Decent grapefruit as well.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of greener hops, nice slight bitterness. There are real nice citrus notes and zest, loads of tropical notes. Really good softer finish.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, fluffy, alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall this was a very solid dipa with lovely fruity hop notes, nice citrus zest. Little chalky/green on the taste though.

I mean you can just say it about every hoppy beer Tree House puts out: they knocked it out of the park with this. From look/smell to taste/feel this is another home run!

16 oz can 07/03/19
Poured into a brandy snifter on my front porch at 12:22 pm
Appears hazy golden white corn/maize with 1/2 inch fizzy white head
Smells of sweet cracker malt and nectarine
Taste is light, but strong fruity hop flavor of sweet fruit like nectarines followed by bitter grapefruit.
Mouthfeel is full bodied.
Overall, very mellow, sweet, and packs a punch.

L: medium opacity. Dark OJ looking with a creamy off white head that’s already leaving great lacing.

S: jumps out of the can with guava and passion fruit. OJ and dank hops are also very present. Nicely fragrant. Honeyed grapefruit comes through after a minute. Nice and leafy.

T: clean hop bitterness with a lingering grapefruit and spicy hop finish. There’s some alcohol burn in the finish that’s a little unwelcome. This is a very clean and crisp beer which is I’m sure what they were wanting to evoke summer. As it warms, I am getting more pine needle and hop resin.

F: good carbonation but slightly thin in the mouth. Wanted a bit more heft with this one.

O: I guess with this being the summer beer, they went for something more crushable which it certainly is. After having Autumn, this one definitely falls a bit short of my expectations. The alcohol makes its presence known in this one which is a bit off from the rest of their beers.

16oz can poured into a snifter. Dated 9/13/19, so almost three months old at time of consumption.

A: Dull golden color with opaque haze. Two fingers of bubbly white head have excellent retention. Sticky lacing.

S: Orange juice, pineapple, pithy under ripe mango, cantaloupe, peachy, maybe even carrot juice. Subtle earthy and leafy dimension too. Underlying starchy scent. Dough and grain.

T: Tangerine up front, lemonade, pithy mango (like eating close to the seed when under ripe), bit of grapefruit. Very subtle earthy/leafy flavors. Bitterness is mild. Doughy malt with some oaty starch and a little bit of grain. Nice tropical hop finish of mango, grapefruit, and maybe even a hint of strawberry.

M: Medium-full body. Chewy, but soft. Ample carbonation. Gentle astringency is not unpleasant.

O: The flavor profile here is reminiscent of summer, so that's rather impressive. Easy, playful, and tropical. The body has some heft, so it does feel a little more filling in the stomach. Probably ok since an 8% beer is not ideally a sessionable option. Just a really pleasant beer to drink, overall.

As a side note though, I'd like to call attention to the fact that I consumed this beer with almost three months of age on it. It had been hidden in the back of my fridge since I bought it at the brewery in early October. You know what though? It still tastes great, and that doesn't surprise me. I find it funny when the hardcore, insufferable beer geeks insist that all IPAs (but ESPECIALLY NEIPAs) must be consumed within weeks of canning, or else they'll fall off a cliff and be a shell of themselves. This is simply not true when a brewery has a good canning line and a capable team to run it, and when the beer has been stored properly downstream. I taste very little going on in the form of oxidation in this beer, and the hops still have some good 'pop' to them. Props to the Tree House brewing and packaging team.

A great beer but not in my list of favorites from Tree House. Minimal fruit flavor from the hops, more grassy and pine. The nose is biscuit and minimal pine. Great beer but their core line up is much better
