NomadNomad
Notes: Nomad is a czech-style dark lager, or tmavé pivo, constructed with deliberate attention to detail, tradition, and patience.

It is brewed with authentic floor malted bohemian pilsner malt, german dark malts, and carefully selected noble hops. A laborious mashing and conditioning process yields a complex texture and malt profile.

Nomad pours a nearly pitch black in the glass. Through extended, natural conditioning, not a hint of haze remains. An aggressive pour yields a thick and billowing head that clings to the side of the glass as you work your way through the pour. It is the most appealing looking beer we have made in recent memory. We taste mild chocolate, brown bread, hay, and earthy noble hops. It goes down remarkably easy while leaving a pleasant and lingering impression on your palate.

The mark of a great beer is the ease in which it drinks in conjunction with potent, appealing, and incisive flavors. To that end, we are extraordinarily proud to offer Nomad to you for your enjoyment. I’m not sure if there is another beer we will collectively drink more of this autumn at Tree House.

Almost a jet black pour with a nice off-white foamy head. An traditional tmave' pivo with subtle chocolate and pumpernickel flavor, and a deep, long malt finish. Is there any brewing style Tree House DOESN'T do superbly or with authenticity?

Tree House Brewing Co. "Nomad"
16 fl. oz. can coded "ALEXANDER SUPERTRAMP APPROVED 02/21/22 09:14:56" and sampled on 05/22/22
$24.20/4-pk at the brewery on 05/12/22

Notes via stream of consciousness: I'm hoping I haven't shot myself in the foot here but the first thing I thought of when I read "Czech Dark Lager" was the wonderful beer at U Fleků in Prague. The Nomad has poured a very dark mahogany brown body that appears almost black in the full pint. The head is a finger's width of dense tan foam. You can see glimmers of orange and ruby at the base of the glass when held to the light. The aroma is surprisingly chocolatey and somewhat bready. The taste is also chocolatey and bready, and fairly sweet. This is definitely not the same beer that I had at U Fleků but it's still good. It's lightly floral and very mildly herbal. A moderate to median bitterness balances it and it finishes mostly dry but with some bready/chocolatey malt and a light touch of floral character lingering. In the mouth it's mediumto medium-light in body with a light bristle on the tongue due to a fine-bubbled, seemingly natural carbonation. The head has held up well and there are some beautiful craggy rings of lace left about the glass. All in all I'd say that this is a very well done, and fairly authentic recreation of some of the better dark lagers that I've sampled in the Czech Republic.

Pours a dark cola colored brown. Although it is opaque due to the darkness, it actually shows very good clarity when held up to the light. Thick frothy tan colored head forms on the beer, lingers for a few moments then dissipates leaving no residual head. The aroma is driven by notes of grainy malts, rye bread, pumpernickel, with some light nutty malts and spicy hops.

Taste follows the nose with notes of rye bread, pumpernickel, cocoa, some light nutty malts giving way to a spicy herbal hop note on the back end. Smooth almost silky notes from the flavors. Feel is light to medium bodied, smooth, with brisk carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall this is a delicious and well executed Czech Dark Lager from Tree House.

Pours a clear, dark color, abundant foamy head. Yeasty aroma with undercurrents of bread dough. Flavor is bread, light cocoa, faint coffee on the finish. Not yeasty. Carbonation is a little light. Overall a tasty dark lager.

Pours a deep dark Cola brown with hues of red in the light. The head is pillowy and meringue like, with that medium tan color. A touch of Dutch cocoa and roast on the nose. It's super dry with notes of light roast coffee and unsweetened cocoa powder. It's lightly creamy, but probably not as much as it would be if it were on a Lukr. This is actually pretty good to be honest. Probably the most impressed I've been with a Tree House beer.

TREE HOUSE NOMAD CZECH STYLE DARK LAGER 3/15/21

A very good entry for this unusual style. Mildly malty aroma and taste, easy drinking and sessionable.

Consumed 2/7/21

About as dark as brown gets without being black, some clarity around the edges, medium tan head that fades to a wispy cap, medium collar
Dark malts, dark grains, chocolate malt, caramel malt, dark chocolate, semisweet chocolate, touches of roasted and lightly burnt malts, lightly floral and grassy hops, low bitterness, grainy and chocolaty sweetness, cola, hint of dark fruit, more roast in the finish
On the light side of medium, crisp, medium carbonation

Tree House decided to do a style that basically nobody in the US does, and - big shocker - it's great. My main basis for comparison is Notch Černé Pivo, which I haven't actually reviewed, but it sets the standard in my book. If anything, Nomad may be a touch too exciting. The sweetness may be a bit much if I drank more than one can of this.

This one pours a dark brown, nearly black color, with a small fluffy head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like lightly roasted malt, smoke, brown bread, dark chocolate, and spicy hops.

This is a revelation coming from Tree House of all places - it seems like their lager game is greatly improving lately. It's got a crisp and clean feel to it, with a kiss of spicy Noble hop character, along with a wonderful creamy, chocolatey, and bready malt backbone. It's exactly what you want for this sort of style.

This is light bodied, creamy, clean, and so drinkable.

I am extremely impressed with this one. Tree House is improving in my eyes, and I hope they keep making stuff like this.

Canned 12/7/20, "I go where the buffalo roam" stamped on the bottom

And we're back at it again with more Tree House! Made a trip up to the brewery earlier today and grabbed a mixed case, a 4 pack of this, and some single bottles. It'll be nice to have something different from them with this one, hopefully it lives up to the rest of their lineup. Also my first beer in the style!

Pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights around the edges and 2 fingers of tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves patchy lacing

The aroma is warm and inviting, bringing notes of heavy toast, dark malt, medium roast coffee, bittersweet chocolate, floral hops, and sweet toffee

As others have mentioned, there's an acidity running through the flavor that is (supposedly) irregular for the style, though I quite like it. Up front, I taste acidic coffee, toasted dark bread, and earthy hops. The swallow tones down the acidity a bit in favor of a well rounded roast, bringing notes of medium roast coffee, nutty chocolate, dark bread, and some general citrus

A medium body pairs with very subtle carbonation for a smooth drinking beer. Finishes a bit sticky and watery, could stand to be a bit more crisp but still good

For my first of the style and my first lager from Tree House, I'm quite impressed. I'd definitely want to try more of the style even though this is #4 in the style at the moment. Great and different way to kick off another round of Tree House, cheers!

Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) can into a Tree House Willi Becher glass; imprint undecipherable.
A: Pours a nearly clear, dark mahogany brown to deep brown color with burnt orange highlights, a more than one finger, wheat to light brown color head, ring retention, and broad, but short lived and somewhat soapy lacing.
S: Tart side of tangy. Aromas of cherrywood, molasses > caramel, cocoa, dark roast coffee, and brown sugar.
T: Semisweet. Flavor pallet similar to the nose with lots of sweet black coffee and cherry. Solid bitterness.
M: Light bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Only my fourth "European dark lager" and first Nomad. I had no idea what I was missing. Light, but complex and fun. Just Awesome.

A: Pours a dark brown, near black color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a nice cap that leaves good lacing

S: Roasted malt, chestnuts, earthy hops, and grass

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with a mix of toasted malt, caramel, earthy and very slightly spicy hops, and nuttiness. Picks up some dark chocolate and super light tobacco/leather. Finishes with lingering nuttiness and toast

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A good dark lager that is super easy to drink. A nice change of pace from TH

16oz can dated 4/6/20.

Pours dark brown with crimson edgework. Retention is short-lived with minimal lacing. Caramel-drizzled banana in the nose. Light bodied with a slick, tacky mouthfeel. Cocoa with light roast on the palate. Finishes dry with mild chocolate undertones.
