Notes:
Brewed with chocolate and caramel malts and heaps of Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Beans, Vanilla Bean Catharsis exhibits characteristics of cocoa powder, fudge, and milk chocolate with a robust body that is perfect for food pairing and cool evenings spent by the fire.
It is a result of our uncompromising dedication to fresh, progressive, and delightful beer. We hope you enjoy it with laughter, good cheer, and in the company of those you love.

Pitch black pouring beer. The beer looked a bit like a nitro when pouring as the carbonation mixed with the beer in the glass. There's a 3 finger brown head. Retention is ok. There's some lacing on the glass.
The nose has notes of chocolate in it. There's a pleasing aroma of vanilla that also comes into play.
Taste - The chocolate flavor starts out up front a bit dark and bitter, but moves toward sweet on the backside. I also get the vanilla up front. The change between dark and milk chocolate is interesting.
The body is lighter, but expected for a porter.
this is a pleasure to try, and quite good.

16 oz can poured into a 'skinny snifter'.
L: A very pretty pour. Almost two fingers of a dark brown head. Dissipates to nothing fairly quickly.
S: It had the 'vanilla bean stout' smell. I really did not detect anything beyond that, though I don't seem to be at the same level of putting names to tastes and smells that most other reviewers are.
T: This was disappointing. This was my first Tree House beer (I was at the Deerfield location two weeks ago and picked up 1 or 2 of each stout and porter they had so I am hoping to have a better things to write on those) and I was expecting something more. There is a definite acidic aftertaste that is not altogether pleasant. The initial taste improved markedly as the porter warmed, but the aftertaste remained. The vanilla bean taste is prominent and maybe I am getting traces of caramel as well.
F: As expected for a porter
O: Not something I would recommend or seek out again. That makes it sound worse than it is, but there are just a lot of options I prefer to this. It feels like a recipe that needed to be tinkered with some more before being put in front of the public.
