Raven is a Black IPA inspired by the changing of the seasons and the cravings of heartiness that come with it. It is an excellent companion to any cool weather occasion. It is brewed with Simcoe, Centennial, and Amarillo hops paired with a carefully considered addition of roasted malt.
Raven’s recipe and process were designed with the balance between resinous hop character and gentle roasted malt bitterness as the most important characteristic to make this beer as interesting and enjoyable as possible.
Following extended cold-conditioning, Raven pours a super dark brown to black color in the glass, leaving behind a dense and rocky head. In its aroma and taste, it conjures perceptions of citrus and pine balanced by sturdy light chocolate and roasted malt character. In spite of its relatively simple construction, it presents with a hefty amount of character and intrigue.
Raven is a beer at the heart of who we are, and what we aspire to do. It delights with its tastiness, drinkability, and hearty construct. It drinks well on its own, but it drinks particularly well with seasonally appropriate meals like smoked meat or beef stew. We expect it to age well and evolve over the next several months while being stored away in the refrigerator.

This one pours a murky brown color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like milk chocolate, roast, and piney hops.
This is a little muddled for the style - I look for a crisp hop bite with a tight dark malt backbone. The malt backbone is a bit too sweet, with milk chocolate and even caramel. The hop bite isn't quite crisp enough, with a stodgy bitterness, and not much citrusy character that you'd expect from Tree House.
This is light bodied, pretty creamy, and very drinkable.
I enjoyed trying this, but it hardly falls into the top pantheon of Black IPAs out there - a pantheon that, admittedly, isn't exactly super crowded.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours black with about an inch of light brown head. The nose is full of dank hops, green coffee, a bit of leather, and a nice earthy aroma.
The taste is really nice. A pine bitterness is there, but it balanced with dark bread, oak, leather, and a bit of old tobacco. Roasty. Really nice overall.

Opaque black with a beige head that forms wonderful lacing. The aroma is of coffee and burnt bread upfront but it turns into pine. The taste is a mixture of cold brew coffee with pine resin, with a citrusy aftertaste. There is a lingering bitterness after the citrus flavor goes away. Wonderful complexity. Medium body and smooth carbonation.

Very interesting beer, had the IPA flavors at first but finished with a nice crisp malty stout flavor

Pours a dark cola brown color and settles as black in the glass with a creamy oatmeal colored head that grips the glass. The nose has resiny pine, citrus, and roasty malt.
The taste reflects the nose, withe the resiny pine imparting nice bitterness, the citrus providing some fruity freshness, and the roasty malt combining with a delicious baker’s chocolate flavor that lends a touch of bitterness and depth to this flavorful black IPA.
The mouthfeel is full and drying, providing a crushingly drinkable beer. I am a Tree House fanboy, and this beer outside of their hazy wheelhouse is a perfect example of why that’s the case.

From a 16oz can into a tulip. Strangely the can is not dated. No abv listed either. Message on can: That's So... Autumn 2022. Assuming this beer is relatively fresh.
Pours an opaque black (on the thinner side) with about two fingers of tan head. Pretty good retention and great lacing.
Aroma...I'm getting an acidic smokiness and quite honestly, it's a little off-putting-don't care for it at all. There's a touch of coffee and dark chocolate as well.
Taste is more in line. Smoky, roasty, light bitter coffee and a hint of dark chocolate.
Thinner mouthfeel. Light smoky, bitter aftertaste. Low to medium carbonation.
Outside of the smell, this is a solid beer. Especially from a brewery not known for this style.
